@pcpirate78: According to metacritic, in 2016 PC had a higher average metascore, more great games, and more than double the number of good *exclusives* of PS4, Xbox 1 and Wii U *combined.* Additionally, PC has by far the best backwards compatibility of any system.

"Level-5 is in the process of developing its sequel, Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom, for PS4 and ... PC."

O_O

Pardon me while I get my happy dance on.

@fanirama: "Hey if you want to argue that we should be gaming on 6 year old HW, then you have no idea about PC gaming whatsoever dude."

"Anyways, I hope you're not just arguing because you cannot take a viewpoint."

That's rich. They guy who clearly misrepresented my view is now acting like I'm the one arguing just to try and win. Come on, that way of trolling was old when people were still using ask jeeves. You can do better.

@pcps4xb: Fair enough, but when we talk about the price of PC, typically we try to mention only what's required for everybody. If you have your own special requirements, then that's relevant to your decision to buy or not, but I wouldn't include it in the price. But at any rate, most people probably have a controller from an old console lying around and if not you can get one off amazon fairly cheap. See https://goo.gl/SB2fhk and https://goo.gl/CEfiJr.

@learnedhandgun: No hate either. However, you actually do not need to buy an audio card or ethernet adapter. As for ethernet, the mobo will handle all that. As for audio card, frankly I'd recommend against it unless you're a serious audiofile or want to use the computer professional recording and such. It's an extra headache in terms of getting things plugged in and can occasionally cause problems with certain games. (The original Bioshock for instance had problems with certain audio cards that caused crashes or a complete lack of sound).

You've got a point about the OS.

@fanirama: Wow. Look, it's fine if you don't know about PC gaming--And yeah, I'm totally calling BS on your "I have a gaming PC"--but don't act like you know what you clearly don't.

First off, you totally can game on older tech. There are tons of videos on youtube of people doing it. Grab a dollar amount and you can you can find someone who's put together a PC at that price and in most cases they're getting reasonable results. Here's a 6 year old mid-range card (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeuzJk-DlkI) that gets an avg of 38 FPS in Fallout 4 on 1080p and 35 on Rise of the Tomb Raider at 1080p. So basically, console performance.

Second, you don't need to 50 bucks for a M&K. Here's one for $13. https://goo.gl/4HZICB. And that's not even looking hard: second result in amazon. If I go with a cheap $40 case *it knocks 40 off the price I gave you.* As for OS, the price is variable. There's no reason you have to run windows 10 and you can find 7 super cheap on Amazon. Or you could run an unactivated version of windows 10 free. Or you get a student friend to pick it up for like 20 bucks. But even if you buy it at full price, you could easily drop down to a 5900 RPM HDD and get console performance while saving $80 (https://goo.gl/B6PW39), that plus the money you save buy going with a cheap case would more than make up for the OS. Like I said before, I left room in my calculations.

Finally, even supposing that mid-range parts will become obsolete within six years--and even already seen that they won't--you can upgrade piecemeal. Buying a 120 dollar GPU every three years is still cheaper than buying a $300 console every six. It's your bizarre insistence on future-proofing instead of just being better than a scorpio that's driving up the price. You can for instance buy a $250 dollar PC and then upgrade piecemeal (https://goo.gl/YjJShT) or you could even spring for a $500 PC (https://goo.gl/nHa6rt) and then upgrade the GPU to, say, a 1180 or 1280 in a couple of years and still only have spent $1100 (minus whatever you make back from selling your old GPU). If you upgrade only to a 1170 or 1270 you'll likely be under a thousand for the whole thing.

Fourth, I agree that it's stupid to debate about which is better between console and PC. They obviously each have their strengths and weaknesses and which is best for you depends on how you want to use it. You were the one making obviously false--and frankly fanboyish--claims about PC prices. PC still costs more than consoles at least in terms of upfront price. But it's nowhere near as outrageous as you make it out to be.

@learnedhandgun:

1. OS I'll grant. However, you can get them fairly cheap, especially if you are or know a student.

2. M&K: https://goo.gl/dbA9aB so that's 17 bucks. Oh no!

3. Ethernet? 1. You need it for xbox unless you want to play on wifi (gross) and it costs 6 bucks. Plus, you probably have one already. https://goo.gl/9OP3cr

4. Yeah, really. I use a TV. It's a perfectly good option. Hell, I prefer a large TV to small monitor even with the advantages that monitors come with.

@pcps4xb: You don't need a gamepad. You can pick up cheap headset for like ten dollars. I'll give you the operating system, but you can get that fairly cheap. $90 for windows 10 on amazon right now, but you can find 7 and 8 super cheap if you look (https://goo.gl/zhqAKl), and if you are or know a student at any major university, you can get 10 free or for like 20 bucks.

So we're really looking at like an additional $100 max which would still be well short of the 1500-1700 homeslice predicted. Of course, if you want a souped up headset, razer M&K, an elite controller plus wifi dongle then you can wind up spending a lot more. But none of that stuff is necessary. And a lot of that applies to consoles also. I have a friend that plays xb1 with $300+ headphones. Not my cup of tea, but the fact that he can spend more for quality isn't a bad thing.
