@fanirama: You're embarrassing yourself. First off, there's no way you need those parts to be able to game in six years. That's completely ridiculous. Second, even if it weren't, that's a strange standard considering its likely there will be a PS5 and Xbox 2 within six years and you can't upgrade to those piecemeal. If I buy a PC and need to upgrade within 6 years, I just replace the GPU. Third, your parts don't make a ton of sense: if we're trying to beat out the Scorpio we don't need an ssd--the scorpio likely won't have one. And we actively don't want a 750 W for that rig. 450W-550W should do fine.

Finally, I DID THE MATH:

GTX 1070: $400

Ik 6700: $300

Ram: $90

PSU: $40

MOBO: $120

CASE: $80

500GB SSD: $110

All in all: 1140. And that's without every part you picked except the bad psu and without even shopping for the best deals.

@fanirama: You forgot about a maybach, yacht and a mansion. I mean if you're just making things up, go big.

@bobbo888: Excluding Manhunt 2 every single game I mentioned was either an exclusive or a timed exclusive.

My point was not that Nintendo had as many M-rated games as other consoles, but only that they "have had more M-rated games than people think." The lesson to draw from this is, imo, that "the idea that it's a kiddie console has more to do with the sort of gamer that buys Nintendo products than with the games that (don't) come to Nintendo systems." Nintendo has shown a willingness to bring very adult games to their system. Nintendo fans just aren't interested.

@jinzo9988: Looking at the steam page, the only pre-order bonus (at least for that version) is some extra items and early unlock of "madhouse" difficulty.

@7tizz: Nintendo consoles have had more M-rated games than people think. Gamecube had exclusives on Resident Evil remastered, 0 and (for awhile) RE4 and Killer 7. Wii had exclusives on No More Heroes and Madworld. Wii U had Bayonetta 2. I think the idea that it's a kiddie console has more to do with the sort of gamer that buys Nintendo products than with the games that (don't) come to Nintendo systems. I mean the wii had Manhunt freaking 2!

@ticklemepink: I think there's two interconnected issues. Part of it is that nintendo made an underpowered console *again.* Desv can't bring their game over if it won't run on the Switch. Part of it is a reputation problem: people think nintendo consoles are for kids.

You're right that releasing a super-powerful console would go someways towards dispelling the "for kids" label, but it wouldn't go all the way. They'd still need a lineup to match. And I don't think pure power would convince devs to bring their games over. Unless devs think there's a market for their games, they're not bringing them over regardless of the power (same reason that Madden doesn't come to the PC even though PCs are more powerful and sports games sell themselves on their fancy graphics.)

And it's not like nintendo hasn't had enticing third-party exclusives in the past: resident evil remaster, 0 and 4 for the gamecube (4 later came to PS4 then everything else), madworld and no more heroes for wii and Bayonetta 2 for wii U. Nintendo consoles weren't just the best way to play those games, they were *the only* way to play those games. And most gamers still took a pass.

Nintendo's in a tricky spot. If they want to survive they need to draw gamers that don't give a flying **** about nintendo games. But to do that, they need a library that will draw them. But to get that kind of library they need to convince devs that the fans will show. A hyperpowerful console might do some of that, but I think they'd need to do more than just that. A change in marketing would be an important second step. Providing some sort of enticements to Devs would be another.

Or...They could they just release another gimmick machine. Yeah, that'll do it.

@veryDERPY: I think this is a bigger issue than the lack of power (although they probably feed into each other): People who buy Nintendo consoles don't buy games from third party devs even when they are ported over. So why would devs bother?

@kayton8: It's listed as a multi-touch, capacitive touch screen that renders at 1280x720 or 720p. Each of these three things (multi-touch, capacitive, 720p) are completely different things. Multi-touch simply means that it detects multiple fingers (or other inputs). So, for instance, on a multi-touch input clicking with two fingers might have a different affect than clicking with one.

A capacitive touch screen is one that detects electrical signals of a certain sort (usually from the human body) rather than pressure. Most smart phones use capacitive touch screens, which is why you can't use them with normal gloves or use a pencil as stylus.

1280x720 is a resolution. Resolutions are given in <number of vertical columns of pixels> x <number of horizontal rows of pixels>. (This is why 3840x2160 (i.e. 4K) has 4 times as many pixels as 1920x1080 (i.e.1080p) both the rows and the columns are doubled.) The when people say Xp or Yp or the X or Y is always the number of rows. There's a reason for this. The P stands for progressive scan. On progressive scan TVs or monitors, the image is drawn one horizontal row at a time (in very rapid succession). This is why the second number is attached to the p.
