Dark Void Impressions

Heroes was once again, great. Sylar's back, oh yipee!

---

In Shift I'm half way through Level 13 and am on 81 Stars.

---

I liked Dark Void. Its concentration on dogfights, and vertical combat (with some nice animations) really set it apart. Unfortunately the rest is offset by some unexciting, unoriginal combat and bland production values. It's not completely run-of-the-mill but it's not far off it either. It certainly had potential, but most of it was washed away and if I did buy it, I certainly wouldn't pay anymore than several pounds for it.

Collectormania

In Shift I'm on 51 Stars and half way through Level 10.

I also played some of my Defense Grid: Awakening; classic, tower-defense gameplay at its best, even if it's incredibly deriative.

I've just started volunteering at my local Oxfam shop. At the moment, I'm sorting out the overload of media and while I was doing so, I stumbled across Zelda: The Wind Waker. I was going to buy it, even if for the fact I didn't own a Gamecube or Wii but then I saw no disc inside. Either 1) It was quickly stolen or 2) The contributor didn't care. What's becoming of this world (or the UK anyway)?

Out of Ammo

In Shift I'm on 44 Stars and half way through Level 7.

Surprisingly, we managed to book a 5* Hotel near the beach (I hate the name's of Middle Eastern beaches - it's hard to remember them) that we are flying to in Egypt and I'll be sure to take some pictures.

In my last blog, I mentioned my resolutions of which I said I was to save up for an iTouch/iPhone. Question is, if I were to get an iPhone, it would be the 3GS 32GB one...which is twice the price of the 32GB iTouch. Is there any distinct difference between the two (aside the fact the iPhone has the functionality of a phone). My friend told me that the iPhone can access Wi-Fi any place, anywhere whereas the iTouch can't and has to have passwords and hotspots in order to access the Wi-Fi. Because, in the end, I don't want to be paying twice the price of an iTouch if the only difference between the two is Music Player or Music Player + Phone.

I think I'm starting to lose interest in Modern Warfare 2. I don't know if am but I the lack of balance is really starting to get to me. After prestiging once and getting a feel for all the guns, perks and killstreaks I now know which are the best combinations to use for all current situations whereas in the original Modern Warfare, it didn't matter in the slightest what gun you used, and no matter what kind of scenario you were in, you could be sure a Heartbeat Sensor wouldn't be following you. I have no doubt Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer is better than the original (even with a larger amount of bugs) but I feel there's a distinct lack of polish in how balanced everything is. Regardless. I know what to use, other players don't, and that's the fun of it.

Better Late than Never, Eh'?

I'm on 1st Prestige, Level 24 on Modern Warfare 2

I've started Shift again. Brilliant game. I'm on 24 Stars and half way through Level 3.

---

My Parents just booked a two week holiday in Egypt to Sharm El Sheikh in August where they have some beautiful corals. We are flying by British Airways although we are yet to actually book a Hotel.

---

Well anyway, here's my New Years Resolutions. Better late the never eh'?

  • Try to work out every day and for longer too.
  • Try to finish assignments on the day I receive them.
  • Try not to buy any new video games until my Birthday in July.
  • Try to get an after school Paper Round and save up for a iTouch/iPhone.

Random Updates

I'm now 1st Prestige, Level 16 on Modern Warfare 2.

I also got back into Killzone 2 which was a blast. It took me a while to get going but once I sunk in a few matches, I found it to be just as compelling and engrossing when I first played it.

I played some World of Goo too. Fantastic game if only in short bursts. I don't see myself completing it anytime soon.

I watched the second episode of Heroe's fifth volume and I've just realised why it's so good. It's not just the write up that amazes me but rather the characters and their backgrounds/motives that inhabit it. The powers are quite cool too.

I don't feel Prestiged

I might buy Final Fantasy X and Red Faction: Guerilla for £10 ($15) each.

---

So after brushing up on a few challenges, I quickly prestiged and was awarded with "The Prestige" title and a sixth class. That's about it. Sorry Max, there are no real awards. I traded - what - all my guns, perks and killstreaks for a sixth class and for a title? It's one big, fat scam.

Not really, well for me anyway, as I'll most likely go onto the second or third Prestige but really, it would've been nice to at least get a few more benefits from Prestiging.

DLC Shebang

I've just received a chunk of my GCSE results today. I got a B+ in German, an A in Maths, Statistics and two A*'s in Physics.

---

Assassins Creed II will be shortly receiving a multiplayer component along with some DLC episodes. Episodes aside, the multiplayer unless done right, will most likely fail.

---

Red Faction: Guerilla is now only £10 ($15). Boy, that sounds good. Borderlands is now only £18 ($27) but I'm wondering whether a Game of the Year Edition will release, packed with all the DLC goodies. Your thoughts? Or alternatively, I could buy multiple copies and sell em' on Ebay for mass profit's.

Yatta!

I'm at the half way point in my Resistance: Fall of Man Review.

I've just downloaded the Dark Void Demo which looks quite promising.

I finished the two final chapters of InFamous - End of the Road and The Truth. The ending for me, was a bit muddled, but I did vaguely understand it. No spoilers on the bad ending please, I've only completed it on good karma.

Now for a summary -

The electrical gameplay was fantastic, I loved all the different variations of electrical powers and upgrading them to which karma you were playing as. Speaking of which, these karma options were amazing, and very thought provoking which will definitely encourage me to delve into a second playthrough. Especially seeing as I completed it on my last PSN Account. The gameplay was mercilessly difficult however, unless you really got the jist of combining a various blend of electrical combos, cover and rolls (I was playing it on easy.) At parts the presentation did falter but for the most part it was excellent. InFamous took me around 10-15 hours and that was without finishing off any side quests or hunting any Blast Shards/Dead Drops. And in today's era that's quite good considering most developer's motto's of favouring quality over quantity. It's a great exclusive and I throughly reccomend it to anyone looking for a great free-roaming, open-world experience.

MAG Impressions

The fifth volume of Heroes has arrived in Britain. And it's fantastic, although it's been 18 months since the last volume, so I was a little lost. Nonetheless, it was still thorughly enjoyable and surprising. The characters are still as distinct and fleshed out as usual; Sylar's cackling and pure evil-ness made me laugh quite alot and Hiro's "yatta" still gets me every time.

---

Speaking of which Heroes got me back into InFamous which I left unfinished back in November. I managed to progress a good few, several misions. I finished Light in the Tunnel, Secrets Revealed, The Ray Sphere, Alden's Rampage, The Price, Vengeance, Against the World and Hunt for the Raysphere. I'm now on the penultimate chapter and totally psyched for the killer ending.

---

After half a dozen hours of downloading, I finally got the MAG Trial working. It's great and I'll definitely buy it at some point but unless the full game comes with a headset, then the whole 256 player essence will seem rather pointless. In the trial for example, I was running around aimlessly within a huge, expansive environment. Sure, I knew what to do but I was pretty weak and vunerable and I was without any co-operation and support. Overall though, the gameplay was good, not perfect but promising and the visuals looked fantastic, especially when considering the 256 player capacity.

Unleash your inner Fanboy

Out of interest, does anyone have any idea as to what the differences are between using Dreamweaver or Wordpress for a website given the fact DreamWeaver is $200+?

So recently I viewed Gamespot's Bayonetta and Darksiders Video Review's (I rarely read Gamespot's written reviews because they're for the most part, boring.)

First, let's talk about Bayonetta. It received a score of a 9 on the 360 and a 8 on the PS3. The PS3 Version was said to have suffered from frequent frame-rate stutters, longer load times and washed out visuals whereas the 360 version however wasn't to suffer anything from this.

Second is Darksiders which got reviewed as an 8 on both platforms. On the 360 version, it was claimed to have screen-tearing which interrupted the exploring substantially. In hectic battles, the frame-rate blowed causing graphical slowdown and just generally, the Playstation 3's visuals were far superior.

My point is, why if for the same problems does Bayonetta demerit 1.0 point lower on the PS3 when Darksiders has the same problems and yet its scored the same as its PS3 counterpart?

Is this general bias, because if not, Lark clearly emphasises on the problems between both games pretty equally. I do understand Bayonetta may have more significant problems on the PS3 than Darksiders has on the 360 like Bayonetta's excessively long load times on the Playstation 3 but still, this should at least demerit a .5 downgrade on the 360's part of Darksiders as is done with most other inferior comparisons.
