I was almost ready to agree with you and then the phrase

so increedibly self explanatory that if you dont understand it, you need to shoot yourself in the face with a flare gun.

made me laugh so uncontrollably that it instantly restored the faith. 8)

Well I think I narrowed it down a bit and what I expected is the case. After the patch the processor is getting more work so I'm guessing it's offloading some graphics needs. The GPU is not working any less either way but that is probably because its giving all it's got to start with and a little less stress does not show.

So, if you have a strong processor and/or maybe your lacking a little in the video department the patch might help your frame rates but if the reverse is the true and you're a little weak in the processor (like me) it might actually hurt. I don't play multiplayer and I assume that there are many worthwhile improvements for that as the update notes list many changes. I'm not going to take the time to install it on my desktop SLI rig and test the results.

Anyway, after reinstall errors, deleting everything including directories, reg cleaning, reinstalling and patching up to 1.02 all is back to the way it was. I was not able to get my save to work after the first reinstall so I guess I will look at the bright side and say that since I have to start my single player from scratch I will get more life out of the game. :)

This patch killed the frame rates on my low end system.

I have been running the single player game just fine on my laptop with patch 1.02 installed and after installing this patch because it said it added wide screen support it's screwed. The only thing that was improved for me is there is no longer a delay when activating the IR goggles. Now everything is jumpy and stalls when moving into open areas. The textures can clearly be seen morphing when you pan and game play is no longer smooth.

If you have a low end system I seriously recommend you think twice about installing this patch unless you absolutely need some of the other features that are supposedly added WIDE SCREEN IS NOT ADDED as it states in the patch notes at least for my system anyway.

Laptop specs are:
T5500 core 2 duo 1.66
2 gb Ram
160 gb HDD
Geforce GO7600 TGT
17" WXGA 1440 x 900 native

The processor is admittedly below spec but game ran fine @ 1024 x 768 with modest settings. Smooth with rare frame hits in large fights with lots of smoke.

Reinstall is not going well and I'm not happy at all.

LOL

I'm surprised no one has latched on to this comment.

"I don't even know what games it has. Weren't the TV commercials unsatisfying?"

[SARCASIM] Yeah, I know the PS3 costs way more and the number of games is limited right now but hey, the commercial ROCKS so I'm gonna run down and get me one cause I can play Super Mario on it. [/SARCASIM]

OK I watched it and I will admit the do! do! do! add was pretty bad but it was only 15 seconds long and the other one is the one that was banned so it's obviously extremely bias to compare the two. Plus, you cant exactly expect to see game play in a 15 second snip so show the box and the price and your out of time. Again, I agree is was pretty lame but still.....

I would like to point out that Sony has had some questionable adds too and lest anyone forget here a billboard of theirs that was banned. PS2 BLACK BILLBOARD

P.S. To clarify my fanboyisim or lack thereof I have not purchased a next gen system because of Xbox reliability questions and the PS3's price. I'm seriously considering getting a 60gb PS3 because of the price break and the fact that it is 100% compatible with PS2 and the new one probably will not be 100%

OK, the lost spacing glitch is really starting to annoy me

The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay

It will probably be a little expensive for a 3 year old game but if you can find a used copy it would be worth it.

LMAO
Ok, I fully intended to come in this thread and rip someone a new one for being a hypocrite complaining about getting carded when we (gamers) are all *****ing about content being censored and ratings that mean nothing.

I feel you man, it's silly to card someone that is clearly well over 17 but at least they are trying. I got taged at Best Buy by a girl who was really harping on me saying "This really isn't for children, it has very mature content including very bad language" ad nauseam. This was prior to the carding rule and I was not asked for ID at that time. In her defense it may have seemed obvious to her the game she was talking about was for the kids who were with me. I had 1 PC game and 4 console games but the Def Jam fighting game really was for me an my friends and not the kids. BUT! Just like you said she didn't say a word about South Park season set that is rated MA and contains some shows the 10 year old is absolutely not allowed to watch.

The retail end of the industry will get the hang of it in time they are just panicking a bit. You could look at it in a positive way and say that at least they are trying to do their part to improve the system and make the ratings mean something. Your point about the other items is very valid. It's clearly a double standard and the carding rule should apply to all items with a rating in the store and not just games.

whoops! edited for language

Ummmm? On the Front/Home page...... above the two you mentioned. ;)
Right now it's Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for PS3

It's ranked on GameSpot user activity.

edit: P.S. the order has changed by now, I'm not sure when the list updates but I just looked and MGS is 5 NCAA is 3 so the order on the list does not change "live"but apparently what it says next to the game updates more often.

The black edition has extra cars and content and came with an extra dvd with behind the scenes stuff. Make sure your going to get that extra dvd with it.

On this subject, they owe you a new game. If there offering you a used one think about what they paid for it. Probably 4 dollars.
