Gamers dissapoint me when they call a game overrated. I don't go around calling MGS4, GTA4, or FF7 overrated, do I? I may not like them as others do, that doesn't mean it's overrrated.

Whether or not i like it has nothing to do with it. It is not the sixth greatest game ever. End of story.

this. For people who are hyping this game a 10, or AAAA............really? could you please tell me what was so great about the second game that you considered it 10 worthy without spamming a list of GOTY awards? Before you answer, note that I have 100+ hours in Uncharted 2 multiplayer, and intend to get in the beta next week.

That's it!? I am sure I could come up with a minimum of 12 :P. And Uncharted 2 isn't overrated to begin with anyway ;).

You know it is.

Honestly, Uncharted is overrated. And this is comming from a pro-sony gamer (I have a 360 as well). I am not going to lie, I feel like the "zomg tis gaem is teh best evar, teh graphix!!" is extremely forced by cows. The graphics are really THAT amazing? Really? Both Infamous 2 and Killzone 3 looked MUCH better.

I also thought Uncharted 2 was extremely overrated, although ive put 100+ hours into its multiplayer, and will enjoy the third one, but I am not going to kid myself like everyone else on this forum. As soon as I migrated to Call of Duty multiplayer I never looked back. And the graphics in multiplayer? Really? The multiplayer graphics were HORRIBLE (although they were VERY downgraded from singleplayer I will give it that). I am glad as hell to hear that they are making the Gun Responsiveness more like Call of Duty, because going from CoD to U2 was awkward.

I just hope they fix that god awful melee system. There is absolutely no reason I should be behind cover, and spraying a full ak47 clip in someones face, yet that person can still run up to me, run behind cover and punch me in the face, and im the one dead. Really? :(

Im just saying cows, please tune the hype down just a little bit please.

On a side note, I never got the reason why people criticized the melee and yet praise Uncharted's as somehow being the definitive melee in action games. You mean that press triangle button when they slow's time down which is extremely easy to do? Infamous 2's melee is a lot more funner imo. Also, I am glad there wasnt a stealth element to Infamous 2, not every game needs it. Next thing you know they will give stealth gameplay to fast pacedgames like Bayonetta lol.

gaming25

I hated Uncharted 2's melee system, but for the kind of game Infamous 2 is, it would feel ALOT more in place than in Uncharted.

And I agree with it being MUCH better in Infamous 2. Like I said in my last post, the cinematic melee kills are not the problem. The problems is with enemy balancing, AI, and enemies being overpowered. I hope they leave the Melee system the same in Infamous 3. I also think that the Melee system at the BEGINNING of infamous 3 should be exactly how it is at the end of Infamous 2, and make it so that the "ultra drain" (which restores your electricity after a melee kill) restores health as well as power.

As far as stealth elements, I dont think the game needs it, however I do think they should take Uncharted mechanics such as pulling an enemy down off of a ledge.

I agree with the most, but I can't believe someone saying this game is a pushover. I'm playing it through hard, and I already fear RPGs. I don't even want to think about shotgun-wielding conduits, ravager, devourer, and good god, the almighty crasher.funsohng
This. One of my biggest (and few) complaints was that the enemies could be more balanced. People were quick to bash the cinematic Melee system and its camera, but thats not even the real issue. The cinematic kills wouldnt be a problem if the enemies were more balanced.

x2 on the rocket launchers, and the shotgun weilding conduits.

I hated the first, liking the second.

Well there you go.:P I also liked Spider-Man 2 over Spider-Man 1. However we can all agree that 3 was the worst.

sanim02

Same here, however we can agree to dissagree about Spiderman 3 lol :P

I thought the ending alone was enough to make it better.

I think alot of it is people being attatched to the first game, and their emotions get in the way. Like people who say the Spiderman 1 movie was better than 2 and 3. Or people who say Super Mario 64 and Sunshine were better than Galaxy 1 & 2.

Their nostalgia for the first game gets in the way (which I dont understand because the first game was garbage)

fueled-system

well if you thought the first one was bad of course you would think the second one was....

In actuality the second one improves on pratically everything especially blast shard finding

No, Im saying the second game is better. Not only am I saying the second game is better, but it is so much better its not even funny. Like the IGN guy said, its hard to believe the two came out in the same console generation.

Going from Infamous 2 to playing Infamous 1 is such a rediculous downgrade its not even funny. First, you will notice that the running animation is horrible, and it is perfect in Infamous 2. It feels alot more satisfying running with cole. Second, the electricity bolts are alot easier to use, and are actual bullets now....etc..

There is literally no possible way anybody could find the first game superior unless they are talking about their personal feelings/nostalgia for the first.

IGN Infamous 2 second opinions

I agree with most of what they say. And I would definately say it is a better game than Uncharted 2, and I honestly cant see Uncharted 3 being better despite all the hype.

It's no secret: I loveInfamous 2.I gave it a 9.0 and an Editor's Choice award, and proclaimed on the most recent episode of Podcast Beyond that it's my favorite game of the year so far. But with a slew of other editors in the office playing the game, I figured I'd reach out to them to see what they thought of it.

Did they love it as much as I did? There's only one way to find out.

IGN's Infamous 2 Video Review

Infamous 2 is a sandbox-action game that...

  • A)...is among the best sandbox titles ever created.
  • B)...is both fulfilling and worth the time to play through.
  • C)...has promise, but also has problems.
  • D)...is flawed and overrated.

Executive Editor Greg Miller:B

Sucker Punchtook what worked with the original Infamous and expanded on it, which I love. There are more side missions, a more diverse city, and plenty to do.

Editor Anthony Gallegos:B

Infamous 2 is a lot of fun. I'm not even the type of person to try and get 100% completion, but I searched for every collectible and did every side quest before I completed it. The new powers you have make the city a lot of fun to explore, and the environment itself is varied enough to keep you on your toes.

Editor Nicole Tanner:B

Playing as Cole is fun, and it's easy to lose yourself in the environments of New Marias. I also love how many drunk pedestrians there are walking around. "Screw y'all! Screw AA!" makes me giggle every time I hear it.

Editor Samuel Claiborn:C

The technically impressive sandbox of New Marais and the cool powers you use to navigate it are great, but Infamous 2 suffers from 'Assassin's Creed syndrome': It is too easy. A single button can be mashed to scale any building, and enemies are pushovers.

Editor Scott Lowe:B

A lot of sandbox games crumble under the weight of their own ambition, with game worlds that are too large and lack the smaller details that give them life. Not Infamous 2. The environment provides enough to do and explore without ever feeling monotonous. There's plenty of action to be had, but you can also relax with some casual parkour and shard farming if you want to.

The story of Infamous 2 is...

  • A)...a wonderfully-told tale.
  • B)...compelling, but also has problems.
  • C)...contrived and boring.
  • D)...is irrelevant to my enjoyment (or lack thereof) with the game.

Cole's launching his way through Floodtown.

Executive Editor Greg Miller:B

I think the quest to get stronger is a great idea, the relationship with Zeke is well done, and the endings are worth playing up to. However, Nix is a dumb character and I felt like there were monsters just to have monsters.

Editor Anthony Gallegos:B

I enjoyed the story in the sequel much more than the original, but it's still largely told through cut-scenes and radio transmissions. I know that it's always a challenge to balance fun and story, but I feel like a lot is lost when emotional moments are just conveyed in drawings or told through a haggard voice coming out of my speakers. That being said, I still wanted to finish the story to see how it all panned out.

Editor Nicole Tanner:B

I haven't finished the game, so I can't make a final judgment about the story, but so far it's pretty good. However, I've noticed Cole acting a bit out of character with the way I've chosen to play him in some of the cinematics.

Editor Samuel Claiborn:B

I like the X-Men-inspired "Human vs. Conduit" conflict set up by Infamous 2, but the major characters range from stereotypical (Cole) to annoying (Nix). Zeke is awesome, though.

Editor Scott Lowe:B

Sandbox games always make me feel more disconnected from the characters and story than more linear titles, but Infamous 2 has a unique premise and a surprising amount of backstory and detail to keep me interested.

Infamous 2's emphasis on morality and making choices...

  • A)...catapults it at or near the top of a list of like-minded games.
  • B)...works really well, adding depth to the experience.
  • C)...adds replay value, but lacks tangible depth and meaning.
  • D)...is a lame façade over the game's story that gives you a false feeling of choice.

Executive Editor Greg Miller:B

Some scoff at the black and white choice, but I like having the "other side" presented right there for me. It's a carrot on a stick that makes me want to replay the game and see how the story changes.

Editor Anthony Gallegos:C

The morality in Infamous 2 is pretty much as laughable as it was in the first game. The only reason you'd ever choose the bad option is to see how the story changes and to get the other special powers. So while it does add a reason to replay it, the choices are so black and white that they're never hard to make. Perhaps it'd be better if they just didn't tell you which was the good and which was the bad...

Editor Nicole Tanner:B

I feel like the choices in Infamous 2 have much more impact on the story than they did in the first game. Rather than just randomly choosing to save or not to save people, your choices have more impact on what powers you have as well as how people perceive you.

The Ice Conduits are everywhere!

Editor Samuel Claiborn:D

Those words are a bit strong, but morality/choice stuff has been done in so many recent games -- Fable, Mass Effect, Fallout -- that it's gone from just being a dull gimmick to a tired, dull gimmick.

Editor Scott Lowe:C

While I enjoy the morality system in Infamous 2, it's fairly easy to navigate. In story missions, the impact of critical moral decisions is obvious on the narrative, whereas smaller moral decisions in side missions have only a minor influence on how the game pans out. Compared to a game like Mass Effect 2, where decisions evolve your experience in unforeseen ways, Infamous 2 is pretty limited. Depending on your perspective though, that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Compared to the original Infamous,Infamous 2is...

  • A)...a better game.
  • B)...the same game.
  • C)...a worse game.
  • D)...identical in every respect.

The pesky shotgun-wielding foe.

Executive Editor Greg Miller:A

I think I like the story and enemies better in the original, but Infamous 2 is a better game. The voice acting, the diversity of New Marais, the powers -- most everything is just a bit better here.

Editor Anthony Gallegos:A

I enjoyed the first Infamous, but the second is better in every way. Better story, better powers, and a lot more interesting and varied enemies to fight. New Marais is also a much more entertaining city to explore than Empire, and does a better job at capturing how dire the situation Cole is in. This is a game every PS3 owner should play.

Editor Nicole Tanner:A

I would actually modify that to say "a much better game." I was very disappointed with the frustrating controls and sub-par graphics of the first one. When I popped in Infamous 2, the difference was so noticeable, it almost seemed like an entire console generation had passed.Sucker Punchhas made lots of strides in a fairly short period of time.

Editor Samuel Claiborn:A

I really like the new powers in Infamous 2, especially those that give you the power to essentially fly around the city.

Editor Scott Lowe:A

As they say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, and for the most part Infamous 2 stays true to the solid foundation established by the first game. It feels plenty familiar but improves a lot of the combat mechanics, simplifies the game world experience by limiting the number of factions, and the plot progression expands upon the central narrative but doesn't rehash old tricks.

Infamous 2's impetus on User Generated Content (or UGC)...

  • A)...brought an awesome element of community to the experience.
  • B)...is great idea that brings even more replayability to the game.
  • C)...forced gamers to create subpar missions using difficult-to-understand tools.
  • D)...is something I completely ignored.

Executive Editor Greg Miller:D

If it wasn't for the Trophies, I wouldn't have touched UGC -- especially after having played a bunch of broken/annoying ones. I hold out hope that some good stuff will come in the next few weeks, but I don't know...

Infamous 2 at E3 2011

Editor Anthony Gallegos:B

I'm not the type to create it myself, but I think UGC is a great prospect for the future. I don't know if Infamous 2 will reach the critical mass needed to produce a ton of great content, but the tools in place are really clever and intuitive, and the missions Sucker Punch has published so far are generally entertaining.

Editor Nicole Tanner:B

I've yet to create a mission of my own, but I've played a number of missions made by other players. Some of them are awful, which is to be expected, but others are funny and well-thought out. As more missions get made, I think we'll see more and more interesting stuff pop up.

Editor Samuel Claiborn:D

I've spent enough time as Cole in New Marais already -- although if there are some must-play levels down the road I'll check 'em out.

Editor Scott Lowe:B

I've only scratched the surface of UGC, but it seems like a clever way to add longevity to the game. I wouldn't personally take the time to build my own missions or even spend a lot of time playing UGC missions after I finish the story, but I recognize it's a great addition for those who will.

As a PlayStation 3 exclusive, Infamous 2...
  • A)...is the best one there is.
  • B)...is in the upper echelon.
  • C)...is just okay.
  • D)...isn't worth your time.

Executive Editor Greg Miller:B

I think most people will still say "Uncharted" when asked what PS3 exclusive they should play, but there's definitely going to be an Infamous 2 camp now.

Editor Anthony Gallegos:B

Infamous 2 is a great game, and one every PS3 owner should pick up.

That's one huge monster.

Editor Nicole Tanner:B

Infamous 2 definitely ranks up there with the God of War and Ratchet & Clank games, which are two of my favorite gaming franchises.

Editor Samuel Claiborn:B

Infamous 2 has the same amazing production values of Sony exclusives like Uncharted, Resistance 2 or God of War III. It's undeniably a technical marvel, but not a perfect game.

Editor Scott Lowe:B

As a series you have to immerse yourself in to really appreciate, Infamous 2 may not be a game that inspires people to buy a PS3 in order to play it, but it certainly a solid addition to Sony's exclusive software lineup.

Why does the box art look so god damn fugly compared to the first two games? When they first showed that box art I kept telling myself "this must be just a placeholder" and I was dissapointed when they kept showing it :(. I did the same with Killzone 3's box art.
