@Lattata: Since you seem to be confused by definitions, here is the definition from Wiki, specifically referencing films. The term "remake" is generally used in reference to a movie which uses an earlier movie as the main source material, rather than in reference to a second, later movie based on the same source. The term "remake" can refer to everything on the spectrum of reused material: both an allusion or a line-by-line change retake of a film.
So as not to post spoilers here are two links detailing the plots of both films. These links contain spoilers.
@Salt_AU: Within the context of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, still stands out as the best movie made in that universe. The story was original, very dark, and had some gorgeous scenes. The final duel betweeen Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader was very satisfying. As I've seen the original Star Wars hundreds of times, I still find it miles ahead of Force Awakens, despite some horrendous dialog.
You could argue that Avatar's story wasn't original but it was better written and visually far more impressive than the Force Awakens. Personally though, I feel the Lord of the Rings Trilogy should be 1, 2, and 3 on the all time list. (Fellowship, Return, then the Two Towers). I also feel these movies are worthy of being the highest grossing movies of all time (in no particular order): 12 Monkeys, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Pulp Fiction, Inception, Braveheart, The Last of the Mohicans, North by Northwest, The Princess Bride, The Thing (remake), Rob Roy and the The Last Samurai. There's probably a dozen or so other movies I'm forgetting.
@solidsolo: I can't wait to play a trans character and not go through with the surgery but still make all the other character's call me Caitlyn instead of Bruce. I hope all the other aliens will understand all my life choices and we can end the game by holding hands and singing kumbaya or something.
This might be a bit off-topic, but I have to agree with the Vatican's assessment of the Force Awakens. The First Order wasn't evil enough. Look at all the PC ads promoting Captain Phasma as a female stormtrooper. She did nothing of any note in the movie and really seemed pathetically weak by the end of the movie. Kylo Ren seemed like a noob by the movies end as well. General Hux conjured no strength like Grand Moff Tarkin and he probably should've been portrayed by an older and more scarred actor. Supreme Lead Snoke looked like Koas from Skylanders.
I'm not interested. The more I think about the Force Awakens, the more turned off I am about the Star Wars Universe. Being sold a remake of a New Hope really irks me. PS, I'm so tired of Death Stars.
