@itchyflop: : I thought the movie was okay, but I couldn't help thinking it was just a remake of the original film. The thing that bothered me the most were JJ Abrams insistence on breaking the rules that define space travel, especially the one at the end of the movie to get onto Starkiller base. He did the same crap with Star Trek. Kylo Ren seemed like a weakling at the end of the movie too.
@zmanbarzel: When I look at this list, I see the Gamespot employees preferring MGS5 to TW3. Why doesn't their game of the year list reflect what they feel? You also can't assume that if TW3 didn't make someones top 10, it's the next game on their list.
@sladakrobot: As I said I haven't played Dues Ex and I have no idea when I'll ever get around to playing it. I remember many reviewers claimed that building characters other than the combat based ones have trouble defeating the 3 main bosses. The gripes tended focus on characters built for stealth/hacking (i.e. combat avoidance) were forced into combat they weren't designed to handle. The Director's Cut was supposed to make other builds (I believe there are 3 if I remember correctly) more viable during the boss encounters.
@MrFreehuggs Yes I'm not enthused by next month's selection...but I'm trying to sound more grumpy than I am. Actually my biggest complaint is too many similar games styles offered in a month of free games. They've had 3 ARPGs the last month and a half, now back-to-back fighting games. Also, I have yet to play Dark Souls, though I have both of them in my collection. Somehow I don't think I'll enjoy them. I'm really not into games that require pushing buttons in specific sequences at specific times with one mistake resulting in insta-death. I'm thinking Dark Souls is more tedious button pushing game than it is challenging one.
@sladakrobot: I own the Director's Cut version of Dues Ex, though I never got around to playing it. From what I've read, it's extremely difficult to beat the bosses in the original version unless you spec for combat. So I suppose I could complain that MS is offering the broken version of Dues Ex.
@Chatch09: Money is the only thing that matters from an American legal standpoint. In the USA, the question would be, does Kojima want to pay his lawyers enough to attend an awards ceremony where Konami is obviously willing to spend whatever it takes to keep him out of said ceremony?
The future path for all American laws/legal positions is based solely on what's best for our lawyers. Anytime any major social issue comes up just ask yourself which side do the lawyers make the most money? That's the side that will win, regardless of it's impact on any morality or human right. If Congress doesn't pass a law to make the lawyers more money the courts will rule any existing laws blocking the right for lawyers to make money is/are unconstitutional and strike it/them down.
I'll try to make time to finally play Fall-Out 3 before buying F4. I figure there's at least another year of DLC to make for F4 and another year after that to have the Game of the Year Edition (with all DLC) fall to $20 or less. So maybe I'll buy it around Xmas 2017. Tomb Raider and Halo 5 will probably be under $20 by next Xmas...neither are likely to have any significant DLCs. But if they do, I'll wait another year for those GOTY editions to fall below $20.
