MMORPG's are a treadmill. Players keep chasing the carrot that seems to be more appealing with each new wrapper they put on it. Once you get off the treadmill you wonder...what the heck I've been doing all this time. It's hard to stop chasing that carrot though.
When I paid $15/mon for an MMO (WoW/Rift), I had to play that MMO with every spare second I could find. I even elected to dramatically reduce my hours of sleep every night to play more. With a F2P model I tried (can't remember the name), I really didn't give a darn about playing because I wasn't investing any money. The inconveniences of nickel and diming eventually just got to much to care to continue playing that MMO.
In the end, the lack of sleep and the irritation of waiting on people ended my desire to play an MMO. Look at an end game raid...if you raid say 2 hours a night, you may actually play the game for 15 to 30 minutes (when fighting new bosses pre-nerf). The rest of the time you are waiting people to get back from a wipe/bio/walking the dog/smoking/trying to get enough people/listening to crying/moaning and if you're luck loot drama. I can't tell you how many times I've actually fallen asleep at the keyboard waiting for something to happen.
F2P or P2P, you can keep them both. Now, I prefer single player games. There's no rush to complete them and you don't have to wait on others. Fun the way I want it, when I want it.
@roarer90 I have to agree. Of the games she listed only Infamous Second Son looks to have graphics worthy of a new console. The other games look like they could've been rolled out on the older consoles, with that multiplayer tower game looking like it was from the SNES days.
I've tried Age of Empires, and I just can't get into RTS. I'm guessing RTS are designed to be multiplayer instead of singleplayer. To me, a RTS is more about how fast you can click than about actual strategy. When I play turn based strategy, I find that I'm still making good mental decisions no matter how slow and tired my actual body is. Sadly, with turn based strategies it sometimes takes the dawn to tell me...no more "one more turn."
@CrillanK Also, the Wii motion controller was not very good at precise motion controls. Nintendo made a fortune selling Wii accessories, the Kinect renders all those extra peripheral accessories unnecessary.
People who use motion controls probably don't care much about game controllers. That casual crowd isn't buying the Wii U. If you want to sell dance simulators, party games and exercise simulators, you're getting an Xbox.
