I've enclosed one article, but you can probably Google hundreds more. Anyways the general information leaking from the set is that 40% of the movie is being re-shot (which is fairly extensive).
While I don't have a problem with the title Whore of the Orient, I think it would severely limit sales. Personally I think Grifter of the Orient would be a better name, especially if its protagonist is a male. Otherwise, I'd go with Graft of the Orient, Bane of the Orient or Blight of the Orient.
@jvconroy: The controversy has spawned from reports that 40-50% of the movie is being re-shot and comments that Gareth Edwards wasn't pleased by the re-shoots and possibly refusing to direct them.
"He does a lot of handheld, intimate, close-up work," she said about Edwards. "That's not something you've necessarily seen in a Star Wars movie before."
Do you really want to sell this movie on "a lot" close-up work, Ms. Kennedy? Close-up work is primarily used to reduce a film's budget. You just need to edit a few pimples or stray hairs, instead of making elaborate sets.
Since the article above lacks clarity, Desilets just won back the rights to 1666 this past April. He plans to complete the Humankind Odyssey before returning to 1666 (which is described as being very similar to Assassin's Creed).
In terms of Space Operas, I'm surprised Disney hasn't acquired the rights to Honor Harrington and shipped them off to Miramax (since the subject matter is too intense for the Disney logo). Disney wants all these tough females to lead action movies, and in terms of space operas Honor Harrington is second to none. Also, the Hyperion series would make for some good films and the underlying theme of those books is embracing diversity (another agenda purported by Disney).
Still, in terms of Sci-Fi, I'd love to see someone (other than Disney) make Roger Zelazny's Amber series.
@johnnyboy787: I doubt Vivendi has any plans to dismantle Ubisoft as they sold their stake in Activision-Blizzard. They probably believes they could turn Ubisoft into another cash cow like Activision-Blizzard, then sell Ubisoft and move on to another publisher.
