10 Dumb Things I Said in 2010

On the occasion, I have been known to get a few things wrong. I am not perfect and I hate to admit it, but I do make a lot of silly mistakes. At times I let my emotions get the better of me while other times I really can't explain what I was thinking at the time. So here is (in no particular order) the top 10 dumbest things I said in 2010. :o

1) Red Dead Redemption Bash

"RDR should have been in only 2 categories, Most Disappointing Game and Worst Game Everyone Played"

I was being way too harsh when I said that and Timma is totally right when he replied:

"I wouldn't go that far, because honestly it was a good quality game"

It is a good quality game and there is a variation of things to do in the game. You can tell that quite a bit of effort was put into this game and is far from actually being a bad game. However when I found out that RDR not only won GOTY but also took most of the awards including best PS3 and 360 game, I was just pissed and felt the urge to lash out at the game. RDR is a good game and probably deserves GOTY but I personally hated the game. I can't even motivate myself to finish the game. But just because I didn't have a good experience with it doesn't make it a bad game and what I said was unfair and stubborn.

2) 11 Years in a Decade

I made a thread last year to name your personal Game of the Decade. In this, I asked what was everyones favourite game from 2000-2010. What I should have asked was what was everyones favourite game from 2000-2009 and toast_burner immediately picked me up on that. He is totally right and looking back, how could I not notice that I added an extra year to the decade? I did try and cover it up, but I don't think that did much good. Either way it was a silly mistake and should have paid more attention to what I was actually proposing.

3) Borderlands Release Date

I questioned why Borderlands wasn't nominated for Best RPG for 2010? Turns out they had a very good reason, Borderlands was released in 2009. Yeah, I really have a bad sense of time when it comes to years don't I? There were actually 2 things that lead me to believe that it was released in 2010. The first being that a lot of Borderlands DLC was nominated in the categories this year and that makes sense because yeah, they were released this year. However I made the mistake of assuming the game was released the same year as the DLC. The second thing was the fact that Borderlands was released late 2009 and my mind just simply rounded up. Either way, I suck at keeping track of time.

4) Red Dead Sequel

Yeah, this was pretty embarrassing. I found it funny how RDR was nominated in the most improved sequel category considering it isn't a sequel. I thought it was some kind of mistake or glitch or something. Turns out that yeah, it is a sequel. I think my mind was blown and felt like an idiot for not knowing that this was a sequel. However how was I supposed to know? The title didn't indicate it was a series of any sorts. There was no number in the title nor was there no use of a sub-title. But yeah, this shows how much I pay attention to Rockstar games.

5) The Dream

I have a habit of talking about touchy subjects. I won't bring a subject up, but once bought up I will share personal experiences and discuss it deeply, I won't feel any awkwardness. However others do and I have had on the occasion been asked to change subject or been told that they don't want to talk about it anymore, which is fine. With my dream blog, I do wonder if maybe it was appropriate to share. It did get a lot of comments and maybe people do enjoy reading personal stuff. I kind of do, but I don't know if that is actually a good thing. With this said, I do make at least one personal blog every year, in 2009 it was my operation blog. There was nothing dumb in that blog so it isn't a legit spot on the list, but I will dedicate this spot to anything I said in 2010 that was awkward or perhaps too personal.

6) Mass Effect 2 Bash

Before Mass Effect 2 was even released I thought this game was going to be overrated. To me Mass Effect 1 was overrated and actually stopped playing for a few months midway through the game. I did manage to continue the game and once the story picked up, I really got into it. It wasn't a perfect game but if you gave the game time to pick up, it does become an enjoyable experience. When Mass Effect 2 was released, yeah I stood by my word and said it was really overrated. I mocked the group of people saying how Mass Effect 2 will be GOTY despite the year just starting. I then played Mass Effect 2 and I... loved every second of it. You know those guys that praises Mass Effect 2 as such an amazing game, yeah I am one of those guys now. I even voted for it as GOTY and looking back now, I feel like such a hypocrite for bashing a game before playing it. Mass Effect 2 will now always be a constant reminder to never judge a game based on fanbase.

7) Street Fighter The Movie

If any of you have seen the movie you probably have the same negative view that everyone who has seen it has. It is a terrible movie, even for a game to movie adaptation it is painful to watch. It is so bad that... I kinda like it. Yeah I said it, I just found the movie so entertaining. Yeah, the movie is bad but that is why it is so fun to watch. However I made the mistake of defending this movie and really, I shouldn't. It can't be defended, once Street Fighter the movie is defended, any credibility you once had is out the window. What else can I say, just another one of my many guilty pleasures.

8) Touching My Shoulder

"One time in high school a girl touched my shoulder, good times!"

Yeah, it was pretty low of me to borrow a recurring joke from OT Girl Help Threads of all places. I just couldn't help myself, I thought it was pretty funny. When I did use it, it didn't come out funny but awkward... then again maybe that is what the line is supposed to be used for. Either way, I should have just kept away.

9) Posting in Religion Threads

This one speaks for itself. If anyone has entered one of these threads, it is like watching a game of ping pong.

10) Motion Controls Bash

After Kinect and Move were getting the spotlight, I was quick to join the haters and share my opinion of these tools that are unnecessary and a waste to gaming. Truthfully, I kind of like Motion Gaming. I have a Wii, a Kinect and most probably will eventually get a Move in the near future. While some of the games are gimmicky, the technology itself may have a future in gaming with improvements of course. It is really hard saying this though because the idea of motion controllers taking over normal controllers terrifies me. As a result, I bashed the Kinect and Move instead of facing the possibilities. However the Wii has shown me that Motion gaming isn't all about casual/sports games and can be implemented quite well in other games. I was a total hypocrite to bash the technology and buy the product, but just because I like motion gaming doesn't mean I prefer it to using the normal controllers.

So there you have it, I am sure I have said a lot more stupid things in 2010 and I can assure you that I will in 2011 as well. But, there is nothing wrong with getting it wrong some of the time and don't mind if anyone questions my opinion or points out when I make a mistake. I don't mind debating either, even if I feel strongly about the subject, I won't take it personally and lash out directly at the opposition... well I try to anyway. Hopefully I can learn from these mistakes... hopefully. :P

Also, don't ask how, but I lost the trophy list, so that might have to wait a bit before I can actually find the word document again.

Till Next Time :)

5 Year Anniversary Part III -- The After Party

I swear, this is the last of my anniversary blog saga or whatever you call it. :P Firstly, there was one major milestone I forgot to add that I should. It is actually more of a story really. I posted a topic in the Consoles Debate Union awhile back and here it is:

http://au.gamespot.com/pages/unions/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=26188518&union_id=12180

Pretty good thread, now looking back, I kind of want one of these consoles. Well a few days after the thread was made I got a new friend request on Xfire, someone who I have never met before. I actually saved a copy of the conversation and here it goes:

[15:43] Troy: I added you because I saw you made a post about the Retro Duo
[15:43] Troy: I bought one the other day, and it's quite nice
[15:51] superironic: Hey, just wondering, who are you? And I am glad you are enjoying the Retro Duo.
[15:52] Troy: well I was looking on google about it, and found you wrote a thread about it on a forum
[15:52] Troy: so I added you on xfire
[15:52] Troy: I bought mine on ebay
[15:52] Troy: black
[15:52] Troy: buying a few more games as well
[15:53] Troy: Originally I was looking at the toploader, but I found that and I had to have it
[15:53] Troy: nes/snes in one is great!

So yeah, it was then that I realised that anything that I post on Gamespot doesn't have to be read by other GS users, but could also be searched up by anyone using a search engine. Ok, maybe this is old news for everyone else but I was amazed back then and still am now. That is just the extra thing I wanted to add... now party time. :D

Party Food:

Rainbows: Everyone loves eating rainbows right?

Lava: Really goes down well after a long walk on the beach.

Gamespot Moderators: No I am just joking, not everyone likes eating the moderator, it is an acquired taste after all.

The Moon: I heard it kind of tastes like a mixture between a cheesburger and santas beard.

And of course, Apple Pie

This is a video released in the same year I joined Gamespot so I feel it is appropriate to share this with you:

Monkey Washing a Cat

Enjoy! :D

5 Year Anniversary Part II

Yeah, I know that part 2 of my previous blog has nearly taken as much time to get here as HL2 Episode 3 (well not really :P) but I sort of have a reason. Just to give you a taste of my time line:

-Not last Tuesday, but the Tuesday before I had an exam so most of my time was spent revising for it.

-Last weekend I hosted a party so most of my time was spent preparing for the party on the days leading up to the event.

-Last Wednesday I had an Australian day party to go to.

-This weekend I decided to watch the LOTR trilogy on Blu-ray with my brother, and they are pretty long movies.

-In the midst of all of this, most of my free time was spent on Minecraft, Little Big Planet 2, Youtube and Facebook.

So yeah, it has been pretty much on my mind to make a blog, but for some reason never got around to making one. Until now of course. ;) I also haven't had time to make my trophy list of 2011. With that said, I will continue with the milestones:

Biological Warfare Emblem: Not really much of an achievement and most newer users wouldn't have even heard of it, but it is the rarest GS emblem I have and at the time, I got a lot of PM's asking how I actually earned it. Last I heard, you can't even get it anymore. I am not really much for GS emblems, but it is cool knowing that I have a rare emblem in my collection. :)

Playing Online with a Gamespot User: Again, this isn't really that big of a deal but I thought it was really cool at the time. The first time I played online with a GS user was with a user named foolio_67 in Little Big Planet. It was laggy, I will admit that but it was pretty cool and since foolio doesn't play on the PS3 all that much (as far as I am concerned) it has become a rare event.

Surviving the Jeff Gerstmann Incident: One of the most, if not the most infamous event in Gamespot history to date. But it did take a toll on GS as a whole and with it, Gamespot is still somewhat recovering from it. Quite a few of my Gamespot friends moved onto Giant Bomb but I am still sticking with GS because IMO GS is better.

Becoming a Gamespot Mod: Actually no, this didn't really happen, but it would have been cool if it did. :P One of my GS friends, Dan_Lero, is one which is actually pretty cool and I congratulate him on the promotion. And also there was a glitch in my union where everyone for some reason got Mod tags. But no, Gamespot Domination is something that will have to wait for another day. :P

No Moderations: No suspensions, no moderations and not even a single warning. Out of all the 5 years of posting, you would think that there would be at least one modertaion but nope, The moderate Superironic button must be broken. :D

Watching E3: The first time I ever watched E3 was on this site. I didn't even know what E3 even was until one of my GS friends mentioned. But it was great and ever since 2007 I still stay up till all hours of the morning watching E3. The very first time I also had a convo opened up on MSN with a wide range of GS users, discussing our thoughts and excitement during the event. That was great! :)

That is all I can remember for now, I will kick myself if there is something missing but oh well. Until next time. :)

5 Year Anniversary Part I

Yeah, I am surprised too. I joined Gamespot on Jan 9, 2006 and yesterday was Jan 9, 2011. So today isn't really the official day, but it is still past the milestone mark and have to acknowledge such a milestone even if it is one day late. Also, this is my first blog for 2011, I can safely say that I had a better New Years than I did with my Christmas. :D

I went to this party and for the first time since I graduated back in 2009, all of my group was there. In High School, since I did the harder subjects, the cIasses I were in weren't all that full. In fact, the cIasses only had 6 people (the same 6 people throughout each cIass including myself. During the years, we all got to know each other quite well and got along really well. Throughout the year, I have managed to catch up with all of them at one stage or another, but never all together.

At this party, we were all together for one awesome reunion and one big bang to both the end and start of a year. I know this is going to sound corny, but new years was actually a perfect night. It was almost dream-like. Seeing these guys, which I used to see pretty much every day all together again was an experience like no other. It is times like that I start to think back to when I was still in High School and miss it, but I am also glad that we still have managed to keep in touch despite our separate pathways. :)

Anyway, before I continue on, I am still in the process of preparing the trophy list of 2011, I don't really want to rush it and not going to fall into the trap again of making up extremely difficult achievements. Trying to keep the list as feasible as possible. :P Anyway, since it is the 5 year milestone, I think it is a good idea to highlight some of the events that have occurred during my time on Gamespot.

Consoles Debate Union: More than half the reason why I have stayed on Gamespot for all this time. I have praised this union quite a bit, but it is hard not to. But I think I will just give a bit of a back story as to how I joined the union. I was pretty new to Gamespot at the time and was pretty much on the search for Gamespot friends. By random chance I came across a user named masterchef1000. After commenting on a few of his blogs, he told me about this union (The Next Gen Consoles Debate Union) that he was going to create.

He asked if I would be willing to be charter member and I said sure. Because of the time zone difference, I woke up and received an email from Gamespot and a few from MC asking me to accept the charter member request. If I remember correctly, I was the last to accept the position as charter member because the rest of the people already accepted while I was still at home asleep. This was when the Next Generation Consoles Debate Union was born.

Today though, it is just known as the Consoles Debate Union or CDU for short. The name change was a decision made after the union was created. Today the Next Gen name is still in the URL: http://au.gamespot.com/pages/unions/home.php?union_id=NextGenDebateUnion. So yeah, that is the story of how I joined the CDU, and owe a great debt to MC and our core group in the CDU for making GS as enjoyable as it is. :)

The Blades of Gamespot Union: This was the first and only union I ever created on Gamespot. It is pretty much dead today and I am responsible for the downfall of the union. It was starting to get too big to handle and handing the leadership to someone else wasn't entirely a good idea as they too were overwhelmed by the work needed to run the union. I did get back the leadership to revive the union but the damage was pretty much already done and people were starting to lose interest in the union by that time.

However with this said though, I thought it was a pretty dam good idea at the time and still kind of do. True, I could have done it better, but I could have done it worse as well. Oh and for those who don't know, the union was solely based on the idea of recreating a guild (like the ones portrayed in an elder scrolls game) into union form. There were missions, individual member ranks and each officer had their own thread. It was pretty neat for the time. :)

---

It is very hard to compact all the milestones I want to talk about in one blog, so I am going to separate them into a few parts for more readability. Keep in mind, I am not doing them in chronological order so some of the events that I mention will be out of place. :P So, stay tuned. :)

I don't believe I did it. O_O I have actually finally completed it ages ago, but just now making the time to give it recognition. I will be doing another list for 2011 however it will be slightly different. Let's just say, I am not taking next years list that seriously and will be mainly consisting of GS-related tasks. It will be consisting of stuff like 'True Friend' and ;Virtual Prankster' and will be entirely... how do you put it... for teh lulz. It should be fun.

Also on an entirely unrelated note, who read my lost blog entitled 'Drunken Blog'? I posted it a few weeks ago and was up for half an hour before I came to my senses and deleted it. I still actually have a copy of it and may one day still see the light of day, however for those lucky enough to actually see it, don't take any of it too seriously. I was way drunk when posting that blog than I was doing my 10 posts video. For those who didn't see it, there was nothing bad in it, half of it was me rambling on about nothing and the other half was me emphasizing how much I love GS. :P

Anyway, how was everyones Christmas? Mine was personally below average but can't complain too much. :)

Merry Christmas 2010

For me, it is Christmas day, yay! :D I got a video camera (I have been really desperate for a video camera actually, the last one I had took these tiny VHS tapes  ), Halo Reach (I think it is time for another Halo Marathon :)) and GoW III which I can't wait to get into as I have freshly completed both GoW I and II in the GoW Collection. :)

So today to celebrate Christmas, I have annoyed everyone with Merry Christmas messages on both PSN, Live and now this blog. :P Merry Christmas everyone, I know that it is also socially acceptable to say Happy Holidays to include the other holidays present in this time period, but Merry Christmas is just more traditional for me and doesn't feel right saying it on Christmas day. Also, I don't consider Christmas in a religious perspective, just a day to get together with family and friends and make an effort to put aside our differences, well try to anyway. :P Anyway, I hope everyone is enjoying the day, or depending on the timezone, will enjoy the day or maybe christmas has already gone and you have already enjoyed the day, I don't know. :P I am so far, and if you are not, the xmas kitteh wants you to! ;)

If not for Santa, at least for this kitteh. :)

Just Your Everyday Bloggy

Hey, I know it has been a decent amount of time since my last blog, I have been meaning to do one but just haven't got around to it. Well until now of course. :P Well Christmas is around the corner, which is odd because I swear we had a Christmas last year as well. :P Nah, actually I am looking forward to Christmas! However I am pretty much broke and is hard getting people gifts and at the same time, save money. The reason I am broke isn't because of Christmas, it is because I bought a new car. My last 2 cars I bought for really cheap both clunked out on me, so I took a chance and bought a more expensive car. It runs really well, so no complaints as of yet. However after going through 2 cars already, I can't help but feel skeptical about this car.

So anyway, I have paid half for the car and owe my mum the other half on top of the insurance cost and the car license cost. Also, I really don't remember the name of the car at the moment, it isn't from a well-known manufacturer. For a guy, my knowledge of cars isn't up to par. So as I was saying... Christmas, usually Christmas comes slow but this year it has approached really fast. Less than a week until Christmas. O_O In fact, this whole year has flew past really quickly. It is pretty scary, as I was saying in a previous thread, there have been events that occurred this year that felt like it happened the other week, when really it happened a few months ago. Well the year isn't finished yet, guess I better get the most out of what is left of 2010. :D

Anyway, in the spirit of christmas, give you Santa Christ!

Till next time ;)

Trophy and Achievement Update 06

The the Lost Videos out of the way, I thought I would welcome everyone with an update. Oh how you guys love these blogs, am I right? :P Haha, no but I have to do them every now and then.

Yes, I have completed every achievement I set out to do in 2010. :D Now all that is left is the PS3 exclusives... this is going to be an interesting month. :P

Lost Video: Engineers Journey

Now at this moment, I haven't been able to successfully upload it to Gamespot. I don't know why Gamespot doesn't like this video, but Youtube does. So for the time being, this video is a Youtube exclusive and you all can watch it here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIvjN5Aesvw

So this is the most recent Lost Video I have. I made this halfway through the year. This is again an experiment of mine. I am not going to describe what I did, but I am just going to give you a bit of background on the teleporter in TF2. The Engineer cIass can place 2 teleporter devices on the ground in 2 different areas of the map. Once you enter the first teleporter, you come out of the second teleporter. That is pretty much all you need to know for the video. ;)

Reason it was never uploaded: I wanted to polish it up a bit before uploading but never got around to doing so.
Reason to watch it: All the gaming references. :D

Also this is the last Lost Video I have to upload. Hope you all enjoyed them, or at least got a little bit of entertainment out of them. Thanks for watching. :)

Lost Video: 10 Posts

[video=dnwxwTCo5bMPuTfe]
I think I mentioned this in another blog but I will remind you guys of what this video is. Pretty much, one of my achievements was to post in OT 10 times in a row. While doing this, I decided to record myself using Camstudio. Well here it is. This is the condensed version as there was around 30-40 minutes of raw footage. Most of it was just scrolling around or typing so I thought it would be boring if I posted the full footage. But here are just bits and pieces of this lost lets play.. I mean lets post video. Also sorry about the terrible quality. I had to convert the originally file into a different format as Movie Maker didn't like it. This usually doesn't happen to recordings processed by Camstudio, so it was strange why it didn't like this one.

Reason it was never uploaded: Where do I begin. :P I hate my voice, I mispronounce words, I don't make sense at times, the microphone picks up breathing (this in particular annoys the hell out of me).
Reason to watch it: The disappointment of what you all seem to think an Aussie accent is.
