He's talking about Halo and the 640p doozy. AliasUK
Alot of people don't know it but CoD4 renders at 600p, then is upscaled. It's part of their solution of getting the game to run at a consistent 60 frames per second with 2x anti aliasing. I don't think it's a big deal because an FPS running at 60 fps is awesome, even at the expense of a bit of HD resolution and some graphics. However Halo 3's reason for lower rendering resolution was all for their high dynamic range (HDR) lighting method, which is a terrible waste of graphics horsepower. Gran TUrismo 5 Prologue I hear runs at an unorthodox rendering of 1280 x 1080 (yes I said 1280), then is upscaled horizontally from their. As far as I know the only true 1080p game out their is Virtua Tennis 3.
I just got my XPS630 this weekend. I have Q6600, 3G RAM at 800Mhz and the GF8800GT 512Mb. Total cost about $1400 and I can add another GPU in SLI if I wanted. I was a bit confused as to why they installed 2X 1G RAM and 2X 512 to total 3G RAM, instead of just giving me 3X 1G?
I'm fully satisfied so far. I can run Far Cry at Very high across the board with no lag, although I had to install the cumulative patch to get the graphics to work. Doom3 looks great, also running at very high settings. Can't wait to check out Crysis and Far Cry 2!!!

The 2 x 1 GB and 2 x 512 MB thing is to make sure you get dual channel with all your RAM.
