@Ravenlore_basic Yeah, and better visuals will be a tough sell if the new consoles from Sony and Microsoft come out in the near future because the graphics won't actually look much better.
People need to consider that we are no longer in the NES/SNES/N64 days when each new gen saw huge leaps in graphical capability. We are near the ceiling now. The old tradition of having new consoles every few years no longer makes sense.
More devs need to speak up and provide their input on this. Microsoft and Sony are listening. If next gen can wait, it should. Next gen should see a huge leap in processing power and actually be needed for better games to be made. Anything less would not be worthwhile.
Keeping the price of the console in check for the US market is surely a big challenge for Nintendo given the expensive tablet and the strong yen. Don't expect the console itself to have cutting edge tech. Nintendo will have to work some magic in software development for this console to be successful. Fortunately they're pretty good at that.
There are exceptions, but generally it seems the better graphics get the worse the actual games are. Remember how many companies were making good games back in the 8-bit, 16-bit, 32-bit/64-bit and PS2 eras? Remember how many different genres were represented in solid form? Now few developers can even afford to make console games and the only safe genre to develop for is shooters, so that's all we get anymore. Sad.
I already preordered the game through Gamestop to get the Mad Moxxi's-like arena battle thing. I'm hoping that feature is as good as it is in the first game. Me and my brother did that a lot to get orange and purple weapons on the 360 version. But then we got the PC version to play co-op online and I don't think we got any orange weapons from the arena. Gearbox must have nerfed the drops! =( Haha, anyway Borderlands 2 will be awesome.
Good quality games take years to make. Respawn is smart for not showing a half baked product. The entire company will be judged by their first showing of their game, so they need to make a big statement. As long as they have the funds to develop without any revenue, they can take as long as they need.
I played Mario Kart DS online years back and there were so many hackers who would overlap everyone a half a dozen times before the race ended with speed hacks. Has Nintendo gotten better at controlling the integrity of their online experiences? Based on this article I'm thinking yes, if it's true that shortcut exploits are the worst of the problems facing Mario Kart 7 online.
These days when I play games it's specifically for sharing experiences with friends on the weekends, for having a few laughs together and enjoying each other's company. Even though there are at least a couple of great co-op games coming out this year, generally there hasn't been many games that offer solid co-op experiences. So I'm all for the advocation of more online co-op games. There is a market for them!
