I think Bethesda is doing it right, for once.

They acknowledge the problem from the consumer's side too, so they realize locking their games would only anger people and hurt them in the long run.

So instead they release more content to keep people interested in playing their games.

I can accept that approach, though I think their DLCs are really overpriced ( Dawnguard is NOT worth 20$. At best, 12$ ).

In any case, I prefer that over disk-locks.

This is a very troublesome issue. It is entirely within the developer's rights to block used games. However, there is no question to the fact that it will indeed damage the relationship between consumers and developers, and that is something that would be in everyone's interests to keep healthy.

So while gamers aren't entitled to re-sell their games, they aren't entitled to buy them in the first place. It's a system of honor/trust in a way, and as with all systems who work like that, they are very fragile.

@Zoza24 CD Project doesn't publish their own titles. They develop them in house, independant of publishers, and then approach publishers for distribution purposes.

Remember the whole fiasco with WB and Bamco fighting over who should be the one to publish Witcher 2 in Europe regions? Yeah.

Don't know about Witcher 3 though.

@MrGeezer @---Cipher--- And what was Jaffe's worth before God Of War and Twisted Metal?

Exactly as much as Nameless Peon, the only difference being Jaffe entered the industry while it was still in it's diapers, in a time where anyone could've been a developer, before the industry became the hulk it is now.

All people are asking for is a fair chance. Valve is being pretty cool with it's Greenlight project, and Kickstarter is an interesting new trend.

Why can't publishers do so too? They invest hundreds of millions of dollars on their AAA titles, surely they can spare a few millions to let other developers have a chance at entering this industry with their unique games, considering they have promising titles.

@Pyrosa @TohouAsura It doesn't prove his point because I used Kickstarter as an external factor to prove that a publisher doesn't necessarily chooses you because of skills, but because you would make stuff they want you to make.

Kickstarter doesn't prove his point because without Kickstarter, there would be no gateway for these developers to make these games, they literally have to beg people to fund them to make what they love because publishers refuse to be more flexible.

What Jaffe said is basically that if you can't negotiate your way to convince a publisher, you probably deserve it and you are talentless, but the developers at Kickstarter proved him wrong and shows that talent had nothing to do with it, just stubborn publishers that demand you conform to their conditions.

Granted, some of the conditions are justified, but more often than not it's just shooting games down because they aren't willing to take risks.

That is a credit I will give to Japanese publishers though, because *** publishers do tend to take more risks than Western ones.

@Oogazi @TohouAsura I think most of the hate comes from nostalgia goggles, and I'm one of the old-gen FF fans, the FFI to FFIV NES gen, not the PS1 gen.

In the end, in most cases it ends up like this:

FF Fan A: "Hey man, did you play FF(insert Roman Numeral here) ? It's pertty cool !"

FF Fan B: "**** that crap! It's a bad game"

FFA: " Why do you think that?"

FFB: "Because it's not like FF(insert Roman numeral of one of the older games here) !!".

It's a recurring pattern in any long-lasting franchise.

There is no denying it though, while some may or may not like the story of FF13, it really was an extremely linear and tedious game, Basically just remove the cutscenes and what you get is a series of battles after which the game ends.

That's not an RPG.

@Oogazi "Sure FF13 was linear.... but that's because people didn't enjoy the expansiveness of FF12 (which is so odd). And the battle mechanics for FF12 was pretty creative and you could see SE was trying to do something new for once... and we condemn it to the ground."

Hey man, don't speak for everybody. I loved the freedom and theme of FF12, and the combat system was pretty awesome, an interesting hybrid of Turn-Based/Action combat.

But FFXIII was waaay too linear. There was literally no way to fail this game since there was only one way to play it.

@moath21 @Jyakotu I wouldn't say something that harsh, he can still like the old games AND FF13. I liked FF12 alot and my favourite FF is still FFIV.

There is no question about FF13 being a CGI fest that's hardly FF in any way.

To be honest though, this deterioration started alot earlier with FFX.

@SavageEvil @advancedcaveman "it was written for Jews of that time because they wanted a leader and king, so they got rules to govern them since they didn't want to listen to a God that they couldn't see but somehow he got them out of captivity and parted a whole sea to see them to safety."

... You don't have any idea why they were given the 10 commandments, do you?

And the New Testament is a censored version of the Old Testament, which is an offshoot of the Bible with more devilish fairy-tales.

Without Judaism, there is no Christianity.
