I'm still pissed off at MS, I take very good care of my systems, never had one die before my 360 not even my launch PS2. Taking care can't hurt, but it sure ain't gonna be %100 protection against a dead console. At least MS replaced it for free, but still having an older model I'm sure it will drop dead soon, hopefully the slims will take a price drop before that.

I used to be an early adopter, my PS2 has the last console I purchased at launch. Now I just sit back and watch and see if and when I'll jump into the next gen. Its great fun you get everything for cheaper and hopefull all the hardware problems have already been worked out. I'll be following this train of though next time around as well.

I'm pretty bad, I've pretty much beaten everything I own. However, if I count what I have put on my list of definitely purchasing then I am way under water. Though that actually is a good thing for me when it comes to my current gen systems as the longer I wait the cheaper the games become.

Any type of physical media falls into the gray area of intellectual property. It was claimed earlier in this thread that a game is intellectual property, which it partly is and that it in fact does not degrade. The code the makes the game up is eternal and even a 100 years from now it remains unaltered. The problem about that claim is that the disc cart etc... that the game comes on is subject to wear and eventually failure. If you are trully paying for just the intellectual property then when the original physical products dies one should have some claim to the intellectual property. For example my Halo 3 disc breaks am I entitled to a discounted copy of the the game be it digital or physical the only extra cost being "handling" IE printing of the disc or the cost of maintaining a network where I can download the title? Well the problem is the industry whats to have its cake and eat it too, so their answer would be NO.

Another fact is intellectual property remain constant, but what that idea, image etc... is worth changes with the times. A patient for a working bi-plane would have been almost priceless 150 years ago yet, really isn't worth anything today. Of course the arguement can be made that video games are an art form and truly can't be outdated like a technology. Again we fall in a gray area, they are art that is displayed on technology that becomes outdated. Surely you wouldn't pay 60 dollars for a copy of asteroids or space invaders like you would a new release. Also while on the subject of art, only the original has worth and only if it is sought after by collectors. A copy of the Mona Lisa is not worth as much as the original even if we delve into the theoredical and some how clone an exact replica it would still not hold the value of the original.

If they really kill the used game market, it may well hurt the industry itself. Kill used games and all those Gamespot and alike stores go down the tubes and so does all the free advertising that comes from having game stores all over the place. Not to mention your consoles and games become are harder for the consumer to find as they are sold at less outlets.

I think really the only realistic aspect to improve with price in mind would have been the on screen colors. The TG-16/PCE could display 482 colors simultaneously though split between the spirits and background and was realesed a year earlier. I think the Yahama chip in the MD is a very nice FM synthizier and unknown to many people very good at digitized voice. The problem is many game studios used the PSG for voice and it truly sounded like crap.

Here a link to some horrible and good voice samples for MD/Genesis games

TG-16 it is a real damn shame that most people I ask have never even heard of the TurboGrafx. Though it was really destined to fail especially in the North American market as it didn't have a ton of advertising and even worst the more powerful Genesis was released two weeks earlier.

As for the entire pirating argument on the Dreamcast and PS1, I'll give you my recollection of those times. CD Burner really didn't go crazy mainstream until 1999-2000 so for most of the PS1's life there was only a small segment of its owners who owned burners. The DC on the other hand really got hit hard as it was released right around the time of "the rise of the CD burner" when just about every pre-packaged PC purchased came with one. How did I come up with this argument; easy I remember walking into a mainstream electronics store like BestBuy in 98 and you wouldn't see spindles of CD-R's anywhere by mid 99 those things were all over the place. Not to mention I have a very unique make up I'm a techie who is cheap therefore I'll know about tech before most people, but I sure is hell won't buy it until it goes mainstream and the price drops.

Streets of Rage 2 - I've been playing it since its release and I still get a good co-op play through with a friend of mine every few months.

Burnout 3 - its a great game for a busy life style. Even if I'm short on time I can play a race or two, take out some aggression by running some people off the road and just have plain old fun.

Mirror's Edge - The game is still kind of newish to be on this list, but I've probably played it more than any other game this Gen. What it lacks in storyline I feel it made up for in atmosphere and feel. I think it stands out as unique in a Gen where most of what is out there is a prettier version of an old idea.
