Sure. We've reached the point of diminishing returns. PS4 and Xbox One games look very good, beyond anything that the PS3 and Xbox 360 could manage, but they look like the smallest generational leap, visually speaking, yet.charizard1605

It was a long time ago so perhaps people have a tough time remembering but this is exactly what everyone was saying about the current gen until Gears of War came out. It might take a year or two but there will be a game that comes out for one of these systems eventually that will blow everyone away.

[QUOTE="superclocked"][QUOTE="teambadboy"] LOL are you delusional If anything the PS4 is like a mixture of mid-end to high-end settings, and it only costs 400$ While the xbox one is LOW end settings and costs 500$ lmao A PC that has similar performance to a PS4 will cost a ton of money too So the PS4 is the best option all around. Powerful and affordable etcteambadboy
The PS4 is not a mix of mid and high end parts. Both consoles use weak processors and low end GPU's....

You can consider whats in the PS4 weak all you want, but a PC with similar performance to a PS4 will cost you a ton more then 400$ Im saying for the price the PS4 is the best option if you want good power too. The xbone has a MUCH WEAKER GPU then the PS4 GPU, and has shit DDR3 ram, while the PS4 has GDDR5 RAM Strictly comparing the PS4 and xbone, the PS4 is more high end, while the xbone is just plain old LOW END no matter which way you cut it When he said the xbone was high end "entry level" he was flat out wrong and you know it. You should have responded to his post. Wickerman777 is a known delusional xbot, just an FYI for you

Hmm, you might have misinterpreted what I meant. I said Xbox One is low end but on the high side of low end. Additionally I said that PS4 is mid-level but on the low side of mid-level. That equates to me saying PS4 is more powerful than Xbox One... but both are weaker than they should be, especially considering the current gen started 8 years ago. These systems should have Radeon 7870-like specs for their GPUs imo. But nether do. PS4 is 75% of the 7870's (A 7870 is a TRUE mid-level card. PS4's capabilities are more in line with a 7850, a card kinda teetering between low-end and mid-level. Hence why I said PS4 is mid-level but on the low end of mid-level) ability and Xbox One is 50% of it.

[QUOTE="tormentos"]

the PS4 is the size of the current slim

Knocks

And the slim PS3 is a still HUGE console.  There is no reason for consoles to be bigger than an ultrabook, but probably more like Apple TV or Ouya.

Computing is moving towards miniaturization, not toward working on mainframes.  Within a couple years most TVs will be smart TVs with video playback included, and no one's going to want to have these ugly devices in their living room.

Why do you care what it looks like? What they do is what's important. What the boxes looked like was the least important thing to me. Can be shaped like dog poo if the innards are awesome.

Hmm, op went in a different direction with this than I expected. I thought it was gonna be about how the new consoles are underpowered... cuz they are. I never expected them to compete with high-end PC cards in raw specs cuz those cards are so expensive. But I did think they'd deliver on the high side of mid-range PC cards, around 2.5 tflops. Instead PS4 is on the low end of mid-range and Xbox One is on the high end of entry level.

Even if true PS4 still has the RAM advantage in amount available to developers and speed.

xboxiphoneps3

no? 8 gigs ps4 3.5 reserved for OS, 8 - 3.5 = 4.5 8 gigs xbox dOne 3 gigs reserved for OS, 8 - 3 = 5 Until we see games using this "freed up ram" the numbers are above.

The Witness (a indie game) on PS4 already uses 5 gigs of ram according to Jonathan Blow(indie dev) which makes this unproven article seem a little odd

Really? I've seen footage of that game and can't imagine what it'd be using 5 gigs on. Looks like a PS2 game.

Got any proof?

Jebus213

Do I have proof? You're the one making claims, even putting specific percentages on things. I don't believe for a minute that 95% of people that play games on a PC have more than 4.5 gigs of VRAM. In fact, I'd guess just the opposite; that maybe 5% have more than that.

But anyway, the point is that most PCs out there are not superior to PS4 or Xbox One when it comes to gaming. Sure, some of them are. But those rigs in no way make up the majority and those that do have them pay dearly for them. Ya sure as hell ain't gonna get a PC that is better at gaming than a PS4 for $400!!

You really have no idea what you're talking about.

OK, so 95% of gaming PCs right now have 4.5 gigs+ of GDDR5 RAM in them (PS4 has 8 gigs but I'm referencing 4.5 because of the OS news)? BULLSHIT!!! You're talking about a small group of people. Most people don't have PCs like that. Hell, another thing y'all like to do when talking about the price difference is say to build it yourself. Again, most people don't do that. Yes, there is a small percentage of hardcore enthusiasts that do but the vast majority of users do not. I ain't saying there aren't some awesome gaming PCs out there. But they aren't as numerous as you're supposing they are.

Depends on what type of PC you get and what you're going to use it for.
