Seems like a lot of people have some junk computers that work fine but aren't really good for anything.

I know I do. I don't know why I keep them, though.

I actually don't find Vista to be a system hog like allot of people claim it to be. AS long as you have 2gigs of RAM you're good to go!gamer082009

That's why people say it's a system hog. You need 2 gigs on Vista to get the same performance as 1 gig in XP.

I have an old Audigy card that I use. Truth be told, I don't hear any difference from the onboard sound on my Asus P5K.

My last motherboard, Asus A7n8X or something, had much worse onboard sound. There was a big difference.

Computers are becoming more easy to build all the time. Compared to 10 years ago it is ridiculously easy.

Like everyone here is saying, the hardware has become much easier to work with. But don't forget the software.Back in 1997, Windows 95 was still pretty new and didn't work worth a damn. A lot of people were still using DOS.

HL2 is very easy on resources. I used to run it maxed out at 12*10 on a 9500 Pro and Athlon 2800+. Smooth as silk.

Do you think Vista will ever get patched to recognize more than 3 Gigs of RAM?

It's a tough call.

Right now Vista = pretty, XP = performance.

My advice is to NOT get Vista unless you have a brand new machine with enough resources to run it. There are way too many compatibility problems and no performance gains to be had.

I'm thinking about upgrading my 19" CRT. The main reason is an LCD screen will let me use higher resolutions without having to worry about frame rates.

I'm not sure whether to go with another 19" 4:3, or if it is worththe extra moneyfor the22" widescreen. What do you guys think? Does widescreen make a difference in games?

I bought the 182 because of a few reasons.

  • It looks nicer,
  • it has more room and expansion options,
  • it's quieter, and
  • it has better cooling.

I could be wrong, but it looks to me like the air flow in the 182 is a lot better for cooling. It draws air directly in from the front and moves it directly out the back (I know there's a fan on top, but it's still at the back). The one-way flow keeps fresh air coming in steady, while the 900 has holes all over the place where air can come and go.

The seperate power supply chamber in the 182 seems like a good idea, too.

I've never used the 900, so my opinion is based only on what I've read about it.
