There was a similar topic on another forum I read some time ago and people who were new to RPGs (or who ordinarily disliked them) seemed to really enjoy Orcs & Elves and Rhapsody. Orcs & Elves is basically a dungeon crawl without a huge amount of story, but the gameplay is simple and not confusing for beginners. It also has an easy difficulty mode. Rhapsody is more of a story-based Japanese style RPG meant for beginners to the genre. I haven't personally played it, but it may be a good option for you. Both games should be only $10-$15 at the most, so don't pay any more than that should you decide to get either.

It seems like the DSi exclusive features in games are just involving taking a picture of something and putting it in the game, most recent being taking pictures and pasting them into a fighting game. All of these just seem kind of lame to me.

Personally, I'm hoping for DSi exclusives that will take advantage of its higher capacity so that we can play more substantial games than is currently possible on the DS. Instead we seem to just be getting a bunch of stupid stuff with photos. Yes, I know my DSi has a camera, and sure it might be useful in a game from time to time (used *sparingly*), but currently it's like they can't figure out how to make something DSi exclusive without using some sort of photo gimmick. Bleh.

I still love my DSi (for other reasons), but I want some real meat, a real reason why a DSi is an absolute *must* for games!

You don't have to be making a living off of it for it to be considered a sport. And that entirely depends on the occassion. Being in competitive mode and being able to chill and relax aren't necessarily the same thing.

I never denied that it was still a sport. I only said that if you aren't making a living from your sport, then your sport is a hobby. Otherwise, your sport would be a sports profession or occupation rather than a sports hobby. Competition in and of itself doesn't make something any more or less of a hobby. Some people are pretty casual about their hobbies and other people are very passionate about them.

Well, unless you work with games, what else can gaming be besides a hobby?

BladesOfAthena

Some people view it as a type of sport, or to be more accurate, a cyber-sport.

I am playing Jade Empire for the first time right now and am really enjoying it. I've had it in my backlog (for original xbox) for a long time and due to life stuff and getting caught up with a bunch of mmorpgs, just never got around to playing it. The game world is unique, loosely based on old China such as in a Kung Fu movie, and combat is real time which I like. I also appreciate that having followers is much less annoying than other games. No micromanaging required, and they all have different personalities and storylines. You can also choose Open or Closed Fist paths. I can't compare this game with the others on the list because, sadly, the others are also on my backlog, but based on other Bioware games I've played for the PC such as Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 and Neverwinter Nights 1, you just really can't go wrong playing any of them even if one is somewhat more well-liked than another. Plus, just because you liked KOTOR best so far doesn't mean you won't enjoy playing one of the others or even enjoy playing it more. Plus, you can download Jade Empire on Live for something like $20 and Mass Effect is about $20 right now either on live or disc. You could play those first and by the time you are done, Dragon Age may have come down a bit in price. I personally love having these great games to anticipate and look forward to playing.

I haven't been a console gamer for long enough to have any xbox games that I've really tried to get into but hated, but there is an old PC game, Arcanum, that I must have started about 15 times and could just never get through it. I love RPG's. In fact, some of the original creators of Fallout worked on this game, and I loved the original Fallout games. However, there were too many things in Arcanum that outright annoyed me. The combat was horrible, the gender stat limitations were bothersome, the gameplay limitations for female characters irked me, and while I thought the technology/magic thing had a lot of potential, the storyline just didn't draw me in, probably because I was too busy trying to get over all the gameplay annoyances. Even when I played male characters, I still ended up being annoyed by too many things. The game just seemed "blah" and nothing like the greatness of the original Fallout games. No, I didn't expect Arcanum to be just like Fallout since it was a different game in a different game world, and the original Fallout games weren't perfect by any means. Heck, I remember all the times my party members would shoot me instead of the enemy...but good grief! I just could *not* get through Arcanum though I tried and tried. In fact, it still bothers me to this day that I never got through it even once. Every so often, I'm tempted to try again but I currently have too many other games in my backlog to overly-concern myself with another (probably) futile attempt. Arcanum is the only game that has caused such ire in me (barring certain mmorpg experiences) and I've played through a lot of PC games and a few console games. Now that's not to say that I've never been disappointed by other games or certain aspects of them. For example, a lot of game endings have been very bad or silly or stupid. I go through this wonderful game only to have an extremely mediocre ending to the main story. Still, I haven't hated those games because I'd had a lot of fun up to that point and have not let the mediocre ending ruin that enjoyment. None have so far been the outright drudgery and annoyance of Arcanum.

"I voted Mass Effect even though it isn't a RPG. Technically it is but not really"

agreed calling mass effect an rpg is the same as calling assassins creed 2 an rpg, which it isnt

Twin-Blade

What qualifies as an RPG? I'm not saying ME is or isn't an RPG, but I thought it was.

Probably anything that's turn-based, story-driven, and contains a lot of anime. :)

I have a Sony NiMH charger that charges all brands of rechargeable NiMH batteries. I tend to just get the least expensive rechargeable NiMH batteries from Walmart and they seem to last for a pretty good amount of time. I have a bunch of these batteries though, so if one set start dying, I just replace them immediately with the charged batteries and stick the old ones directly into the charger. The regular batteries do seem to last longer, but it's really easy to just use the charger, and probably better for the environment since I'm not constantly disposing of dead batteries.

I have one Wii, bought in March or April 2009. Not sure why I'd need more than the one.
