I disagree, they assume that children and preteen consumers don't play maturer titles. While ESRB ratings exist, these ratings are far less important than they'd like to believe they are. I for one played Conker's bad fur day since i was 8, I turned out pretty ok.

Secondly, with the economy being in the state it is, neither parent can afford to be at home. In 2012, mommy, daddy, kids and grandma sitting in front of the t.v playing Mario Kart and laughing isn't a likely scenario. If it were to happen, the max parents can afford is an hour of family time a week and they're more likely to play non- electronic games like monopoly.

@toshineon Yes, difference is that Sony could afford it, games aren't their only sector for revenue. To top that off, the cell cpu and the modded custom gpu of the unit was well beyond it's kind. The unit was also 3D ready. Therefor the console is future proof. Nintendo isn't really in the same boat at the moment.

For the price, I have yet to check but to my knowledge, they haven't begun taking preorders in Canada yet.

@toshineon Despite my skepticism, I'm actually rooting for the Wii U to pull through, but if that Swedish is real, they best not expect some promising figures at launch, or even all of 2013 for all that matter.

Now if they were to take a strategic approach by lowering the price to 250$-300$, given speculation, the console's actual worth will make Nintendo bleed money for the next couple years until the value of the hardware they put in it the machine decreases in value. Then they will actually begin to make money. Between that time, I'm assuming they will look towards the 3DS sales for some coin.

@toshineon I disagree, the article above clearly states that he wants a price that won't over impose itself like 3DS did. Given the task of putting hardware into a machine that won't become obsolete in a few years time and pair that with a tablet controller, you got yourself a pricy console.

If he intends to keep a competitive price range, it's safe to assume it isn't going to be all that advanced in the tech department.

Another reason to draw conclusion: given their history and the fact that Iwata would foolishly give an "I don't care" speech to the press 5 months before the console is scheduled to launch. Not only is he botching opportunist gain of any potential investors in Nintendo's stocks, he's playing texas holdem' with consumer trust.

Oddly, he also has yet to reveal the full Wii U console specs. Giving an "I don't Care" speech yet leaving the public speculation to tech demos. If competition is something he honestly didn't care about, why not put most if not all the specs on the table for all to see?

Innovation and being "different" is great and all, but being "different" won't save you when third party devs turn their backs on you for more up to date hardware 3 years from now.

It's a problem they're foolishly ignoring and it's going to continue to cost them.

An example of the kind of people who don't deserve to share an opinion. There's nothing about his predictions that are considerably "educated". Just babbling and mindless preaching from a hater.

@Superzone Nintendo already stated that the long term goal was to have 3DS surpass it's predecessor. It's outrageous because they lost the opportunity to do so. Take the recent price cut of the 3DS and pair it with Black and White 2 would make a clever business model

What a foolish statement, why on earth would developers go to other platforms and abstain themselves from great business opportunities. The console market is still quite HUGE. They're costing themselves millions only to jump into a market where your game has to be super creative to sell. It isn't a logical business decision.

@Mozuckint Has nothing to do with rationing internet time, they're doing this because micro-transaction based FPS is VERY VERY VERY popular in Asia, Nexon got filthy rich off Combat Arms, IjjI wants a peice of the pie with A.V.A. don't like? Let's play some Soldier Front or War Rock. I want some hardcore so lets play Blackshot. Want wacky? Play crazy shooter online. Animals vs Humans with guns infection style? Wolfteam is for you.

The list finishes in hundreds, a large tumor of Korean developers trying to muscle out each other after the success of Counter Strike. I'm not going to pull some wacky statistics baselessly but if i had to guess, 1/3rd of teens between the ages of 13-23 play some form of free to play MMO FPS, RPG or fighting game In those countries which is why the government wants to ration internet time, it's an epidemic.

Activision being the greed hunters that they are, its only natural they want a slice of the bread.
