I don't buy it. Just another hype train story if you asked me. Why would any self respecting former developer put himself in the hot seat and tip off the media like that. Former or not, he still signed a contractual obligation to Sony by not discuss anything relating to his job.
By ratting he would also be taking any chances he has of getting hired for other positions within the industry. GS should bring back "rumor mill" and lock these articles to a certain section of the site. Maybe that way they can accurately portray themselves as a legitimate and respectable journalism source.
No 3DS Black and White? Oh now I KNOW Nintendo's marketing execs lost their marbles, what a terrible business move, just awful.
I mean this decision probably pared with the fact that they know everyone that still buys pokemon games to date own a DS, but to throw away an opportunity to encourage the DS fans into going 3DS?...... Just..... Outrageous....
@moviequest14 I can give you some quotes from 2006 with a TON of developers boasting about the Wii and it's potential with motion gaming. A long list of companies that said they fully support Wii 100% We all saw how that turned out.
The problem is that 6 years ago I was arguing on this site but within your shoes throwing the exact same arguments at haters. "Again there are supposed to be quite a few games not announced yet that could/will be launch titles".... It's trippy because I wrote that exact same argument in a Wii article 6 years ago.
@SSL_Syn Microsoft supports the cores by buying rights to exclusives and making Dev Kits incredibly simple to use without reserving any programming features 2 first party development.
@moviequest14 I do know he said friend codes are alot simpler, they said that when the Wii launched, they said it would be a bit simpler than the DS FC system, wasn't the case, The fact is Nintendo made ALOT of promises with the Wii, they even promised that all their first party titles would make at least 1 game exclusive appearance on Wii. At Wii's launch, Red Steel seemed promising, Metroid prime 3 seemed promising and built some hype. Twilight Princess seemed promising. Thing is, this time around I'm not spending on promises.
As for your other argument, pardon me if don't feel the spending $200+ on a new console just to play cod, ac3 etc. instead of paying 70$ to play them on a console I already own.
Nintendo has also done NOTHING to prove to the critics, skeptics or analysts that this isn't just a placeholder console. Investors, both business and consumer still wonder if they should put their money towards hardware that risks being outmatched in 2 years time.
@SSL_Syn The casual market far outnumbers Core gamers but that doesn't make them anywhere near more important, Marketing Economics 101,
The idea of a sales diagram is to sell products to raise goal tangent figures, once everyone has bought the product, it hits what you call "market saturation". Once saturated, the product tangent begins to drop as sales figures lower. Companies try to slow the tangent decent by launching support products as rebounders (in this case games). If it slows the decent, it's done it's job, if it gives the tangent a line effect it's gone beyond expectation.
Sony and Microsoft make smart utilization of rebounders by relying on hardcore gamers. Nintendo took advantage of the casual market and sold high figures, because of this, It hit saturation FAR too fast and fell just as quick. rebounders were non existent because the cores had already converted while the casuals didn't come back. Not to mention the rebounds were absolute horse raddish. So no, you don't know what you're talking about when you say the Industry recognizes the casual market as a far more important market to reach out to.
I've seen how the 3ds system works and I'm still not convinced. you can fight this point all you'd like but the fact is that if a survey popped up on Wii's "everybody votes" channel today. and it asked everyone if they preferred a refined 3DS FC system over PSN and XBL systems for the successor Wii U, the results would be more than beyond unanimous.
@SSL_Syn Again I disagree with that blind statement. Yes the casual market is an important one but nowhere near as Important as you and I. You and I are what keep rough patches from happening. Casual gamers spend a portion of their paychecks once in a blue moon. Once a casual got his hands on a Wii, he or she will get his Wii sports or Wii fix and be done for quite awhile. You and I are the guys who comeback during that resting period, were the guys who blow all our paychecks on games and dim the lights down with blankets on our heads alone in our rooms playing religiously. We keep the tangent on the diagram straight shot.
Secondly, I know all about Nintendo's "Character" and why I stress it so much is that they need that "Character" more than ever in 2012. A large portion of the community lost faith in them, the reveal of the Wii U made their stocks take a a nose dive, their investors lost faith in them. The analysts? don't even get me started, they don't even think the Wii U will even be able to keep its footing once the xbox 720 and ps4 roll out. They think the Wii U is intentionally a 2 year placeholder to survive a rough cycle. This isn't the time for them to take periodic "pauses". You'd think they knew that already.
