So tell me whats the real reason Fable 3 got delayed? Drm? Piracy? OMG THE PC INTERWEBS PIRATES!Livemmo

We already know the real reason why MS delays or refuses to release xbox exclusives on the PC. They are on record as stating why they do it

On a global scale the Windows Vista business is as important as our Xbox 360 business. But in Germany for example, we want more gamers to buy our Xbox 360. If we launch a game that is on 360 and PC simultaneously, we basically shoot ourselves in the foot by allowing the German market to choose to play the PC version – because they are more likely to buy that than spend their money on the Xbox 360.Peter Zetterberg

There you go everything answered, it had nothing to do with piracy or DRM and has everything to do with Microsoft trying to dominate the console market and reduce consumer choice because they know if they give the consumer a choice in certain territories then the consumer would rather gouge their eyes out before they go near the xbox version :P

I don't believe that the Mobility 4650 would be too weak to play the game while still looking relatively good. The minimum graphics requirements for the game are either a Geforce 6 series or an ATI 1300XT, which are a bit further down the list that you provided. Also, the game detected his settings for High.dos4gw82

Yeah you can believe all the fairy tales you like it doesn't change the fact that the mobility 4650 is weaker than the GPU's you find in the xbox and PS3 which means you should have the game on very low settings and on a resolution below 1280 x 720. The minimum requirements is usually to play the game at just 640 x 480 with everything set to low. As for the game detecting and putting it on high ...... you do realise that automatic detection of settings is a load of rubbish which is why we have to spend time figuring out the best settings for your individual machines.

From what I've seen, the Mobility 4650 seems to be a fairly competent mobile graphics chip, though it is by no means a "monster" as the TC suggested. Videos and charts can only tell us so much, though, and I'd be interested in hearing if the TC experienced an improvement in performance after applying the d3d9 file as suggested.dos4gw82

Yeah well from what I have seen from the benchmarks carried out by semi competent people the 4650 is not a fairly competent graphics chip. I generally do not consider rubbish from youtube as proof. I have seen ridiculous claims like "omgz I can so like run GTA 4 on max at 1080p on my 8500gt and pentium 4 PC here is the video" from the youtuber's.

Too weak to play a game that runs on a 4 year old engine?dos4gw82

I don't think you appreciate how weak the Radeon Mobility 4650 actually is. Looking at the various benchmarks it looks to me as if the mobility 4650 is actually WORSE than the GPU you find in the 360/PS3 :-

To play F NV on that card you need to have all the settings on as low as they can go and a res lower than 1280 x 720 then, just then you might get playable framerates in the low 20's.

No Fable 2 is not going to come to the PC, hell at this point there is some "question" as to whether Fable 3 will even make it to the PC. Since MS's initial announcement all we have heard is that it has been "delayed" we haven't seen diddly squat of anything Fable 3 related PC wise. The press releases from MS still indicate that they will bring Fable 3 to the PC but there is no way on this planet will you see a 2 year old game like Fable 2 coming to the PC.

Well Fallout NV has steamworks integrated into it so there is very little difference between buying it retail and buying it via steam. The only difference being you get the game on disc so you don't have to download the whole lot from steam but essentially after that it behaves just like any other steam works game. I personally buy all games via steam.

The main reason I use steam is for convenience and cost, to get the game retail it would cost me more if you factor in travel costs. Now sure I could purchase retail via an online seller but the postal service in the UK is so crap that by the time the game actually gets delivered to me it is more than likely on a steam sale :P .

In your case since you can get a decent discount and since Fallout NV is a steamworks game then it makes sense to just get the retail version and save a bit of money in this day and age.

What did you like in the story more for Fallout3? I am curious.

kozzy1234

Firstly with FO 3 the story just felt more "epic", the fact it starts out in a Vault is also a plus for it in my book. In F NV the vaults actually feel completely unnecessary in the game, it feels as if they added the vaults because they had to make it feel like a Fallout game. The whole story with F NV just comes across as a petty little squabble and humanity would be best served if the entire area had been nuked beyond belief whereas FO 3 had an epic tail of human survival that starts off with someone simply wanting to find their dad and ending up with an event that would have life changing consequences for all humanity.

I can honestly say I don't care about any of the characters in Fallout NV the primary reason why I don't care is because I don't actually get an opportunity to develop any kind of relationship with them. The problem here is the way the quests are handled in F NV, you start one quest and in the process of doing that quest you get another quest and so you start doing that and get another quest etc etc till by the end you have like 15 quests going and you can't concentrate on the main one you started so you just end up doing them all with out particularly caring why you are doing them.

Now I am not saying Fallout NV is a bad game, it clearly isn't a bad game if I sunk 90 odd hours into it, but for me FO 3 is where it is at and once I have finished this playthrough of Fallout NV I will probably end up returning to Fallout 3 for my post apocolypse fix.

According to steam I have been playing it for 94 hours, although that is slightly inaccurate as I haven't been "playing" it for that long. Usually once I start a game up I leave it running all day (alt tab out to do other stuff).

I am enjoying Fallout NV but I would say not as much as I enjoyed Fallout 3, the story just doesn't feel "epic" and I just can't find myself caring about the characters in the game as opposed to F3.

Anyone remember the pioneer space simulation game, Wing Commander. That game really hasn't aged well, has it? I just tried it out using DOSbox, and didn't really care for it. What do you think of it?

Squalus7

Are you referring to the first wind commander ? because you are talking about a game that was released in 1990 which was TWENTY years ago. I think you would be hard pushed to find anything made 20 years ago that has "aged well".

I personally loved the wing commander franchise, still have them all in boxes somewhere in the house. It many ways it is a shame they never continued the franchise or remade it. However judging by the quality of development these days it is probably best they don't try and butcher a classic like Wing Commander.

I am usually the first one to laugh at anything Ubisoft do (terrible company), but in this case there may be rhyme and reason to their madness over inflicting the DRM on their benchtest.

I know in the past hackers have been able to use demo files as a guide to cracking the full game once it has been released. So it is feasible that Ubisoft have implemented the DRM on the benchtest to ensure that the benchtest will not "give anything away" to hackers.

I wasn't particularly in a hurry to download the benchmark since I have heard enough about H.A.W.X 2 to know that I should avoid it even if they put it on a steam sale for 50p.

Nice to see a few babes from Mass Effect appearing in here. Although I am surprised no one has mentioned Liara or Commander Shepard (femshep that is :P ) :-

So it is basically a "toss up" (quite literally) between Liara or my femshep.
