As time passes by more and more devs go multiplatform and the series pc exclusives are dissapearing.dakan45

Just thought I should point out that it isn't just PC exclusives "disappearing" you will also find that exclusives are a dying breed on the console as well. This is purely down to the fact for most third party developers it does not make one jot of sense to make an "exclusive" unless you are compensated for making a game exclusive for a particular platform.

Now if you look at nearly all the exclusives on the 360 and PS3 you will find there is some sort of financial incentive there to make that game an exclusive or that Sony/Microsoft own the IP or even the developer. Obviously the PC is at a disadvantage here since there is no megacorp willing to write blank cheques to encourage a developer to stay exclusive to the PC. This is primarily why you are seeing fewer exclusives on the PC, because with the PC a developer is free to do what they like and it makes sense to bring your game to as wide an audience as possible.

Now as to the "impending" death of the PC the fact that the media seems so convinced that PC gaming will die just shows how totally moronic and ill informed they are. It will of course adapt and evolve as it always has done but it is a gaming platform that will never die. The PC relies on it's users for it's gaming support and as long as people want to play games on the PC there will always be a PC gaming scene.

Whilst this is obviously good news for those that have Bioshock 2 it does highlight the fact that these days the software industry seems to be run by headless chickens that do not have a clue what they hell they are doing.

I think it is too little too late though, I know I certainly do not have the confidence to purchase any 2K titles on the PC. When I buy a game I want to feel confident that the company will support that product and at least ATTEMPT to fix any bugs or glitches. The previous announcement where they basically left PC gamers to rot shows that 2K cannot be relied upon to support their PC products. The fact they have now done a complete U turn doesn't change my feelings on the matter, we really shouldn't have to kick up a fuss to get companies to live up to their obligations.

This doesn't really surprise me, it is happening across the board with "exclusives" be it the 360 or PS3. An exclusive does not make good business sense in this day and age UNLESS there is some sort of incentive from the console manufacturer. We have seen it with exclusives like Mass Effect 2 which is now appearing on the PS3, then there are PS3 franchises such as Metal Gear appearing on the xbox 360. The age of platform exclusives is all but dead unless a console manufacturer is willing to chuck an oil tanker load of cash at the developer.

The PC is an open platform, a developer is free to come and go as they please. There is certainly no "megacorp" willing to write a big fat check to encourage Blizzard to stay PC exclusive so there is no reason for Blizzard to stay PC exclusive. Will Diablo 3 eventually appear on the consoles ? Probably yes if there is a demand for that game on the consoles. It will not matter one jot how many copies of Diablo 3 sell on the PC what will matter is whether there is a demand for the game on the consoles.

I bought the first one for a fiver during a steam sale and never even finished it I was that bored by the game so as you can guess I am not exactly running out to buy the second one. I think the only way I can see myself playing the 2nd one is if Lucasarts actually pays me to play it.

Such a shame really I would have loved a Dark Forces/Jedi Knight remake but then I guess that gameplay doesn't appeal to the console crowd and that seems to be the audience Lucasarts chases these days.

Steam launches in whatever mode you last had it set too. So if you had steam set to "off line" mode when you last shut it down it stays in off line mode when you start it up again. It will stay in off line mode till you tell it to go into on line mode.

I have had steam running in off line mode for weeks on end because I am not a multiplayer gamer. I begrudingly accept online authentication (because I have no choice in the matter) and so I just use steam for that. I have no interest in any of the "online features" so I don't use online mode, I didn't realise this was such a revelation to be honest.

Why would you go out of your way to put Steam in offline mode? I mean most people always have an Ethernet cable plugged into their PC anyway.Daytona_178

Why would I want to be online with steam ? I don't play multi player games, nor do I care about achievements. So there really is no need for me to be online with steam. I wouldn't say it is that much of an arduous task to put steam in off line mode.

I don't think the community is very strong in the UK, it is more an Wii60 territory than anything else. In the rest of europe it should sell a lot better, also the sales will probably be much larger in DD. As of now Steam says it has 38000 people playing it, even so it should be smaller than console sales.Masculus

I wouldn't put too much faith in that 38,000 number that you see on the steam stats, that only records those actively playing with steam online. Steam just passed 30 million accounts yet the online stats show only 2 - 3 million are ever online. A lot of people just use steam to register their product and prefer to play it in off line mode especially when you consider Fallout NV is a single player game only (so there is no need to be on line).

I know personally I only put steam in online mode to check the latest deals of the day then go into off line mode and play my games (no I really couldn't give a toss about steam achievements or any kind of achievements). So the 38,000 figure again is not an accurate reflection of how many people bought Fallout NV.

At the end of the day Fallout 3 must have been a success on the PC because they released Fallout NV. I believe Fallout NV has been a success and we will see another fallout on the PC. That is what matters at the end of the day, we can talk figures and percentages as much as we like none of us really know the true picture.

Not this old chestnut again ...... firstly I would take a breakdown like that with a truck load of salt. Secondly as far as I am aware Steam does not release sales numbers to ANY chart tracking organisation so it is fair to say that those numbers do not count steam purchasers. I live in the UK and I bought Fallout NV but I purchased it via steam. I believe 80% of PC game sales are via digital distributors like steam these days. So when you see rubbish like "oh noes only 10% of fallout purchasers were on PC boxed retail" remember they are ignoring the other 80% that bought it digitally.

Now by all accounts Fallout NV has been flying off the steam virtual servers, it is still in the number 1 spot nearly a week after it's release handsomely beating down the latest COD game that is available for pre-order.

Do we really need 700 "eek I can't get fallout NV working properly" threads. The answers you want have already been posted several times. If you are having performance issues then the first thing you should do is try the file that is linked in this topic :-

http://uk.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=27487500&tag=topics%3Btitle

The majority of people using this file have stated they recieved a significant boost in performance so it is worth giving it a go and seeing what happens.

Also, does anyone know if Nvidia is going to put out a patch for the choppy framerate issues and slowdowns around NPCs? Thankszerobdr7869

If you are having a choppy framerate then you might want to try this fix I posted in another thread :-

For those having framerate issues with Fallout NV you might want to try this, download this file :-

http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34778

Unrar it to the Fallout NV folder (where you can find falloutNV.exe) then start the game up. If a message comes up saying "detecting hardware, setting to medium settings" then it means FalloutNV is using the new file proplerly. Now just whack the settings back up and you should find your Fallout NV experience a hell of a lot smoother than it was before. It doesn't remove ALL of the stuttering but it does make it a lot smoother.

It seems to work for a majority of people but there are one or two reporting no change. I certainly saw a massive difference using this file.
