I don't know why. I just found HL1 was be a scripted, horribly designed game with challenges that focused too much on trial and error. Once I witnessed and played HL2, I beat it on normal then on hard four times. The game was incredible and is, simply put, one of the best FPSs in my life.

What the heck? What made the original so good?

True_Blu3

You have to remember that HL1 was the first of it's kind back in the day. No cutscenes, everything was played in character. The game was a scripted story instead of the usual run and gun style broken up by cinematic cutscenes which was the norm with FPS games back then.

If you played HL1 right after it was released, believe me, it was something else. Different and superior to any other shooter of it's day. The tram ride and non combat parts at the start of the game was worth the price alone, simply because there just wasn't anything like it anywhere else.

edit - I'd also like to note that I loved HL2 as well, so i'm not judging it inferior or anything by any means. I enjoyed both :)

[QUOTE="kieranb2000"]

I disagree.

Supreme Comander is a LOT better than Company of Heroes.

JangoWuzHere

I can say alot of people will disagree with that:/

I found Supreme Commander very boring really.

I wouldn't personally call it "boring" exactly... It starts very slowly though given the huge scope of the battles. Once you have your bases and units built up and get into the combat, it's actually quite exciting and fast paced.. It's just so huge that it takes a lot longer to get to the mass combat fun than other RTS titles.

Also, in response to the Medieval: Total War OP question, it's not exactly the typical "RTS" that you're used to. The empire building is somewhat narrow compared to your usual RTS, but the combat (which is in real time with thousands of individual units) is really the best part of the game. The empire/army building part is a turn based, somewhat slow process.

I'd personally recommend the game to anyone who has a passing interest in medieval combat though, it's probably the most accurate portrayal you'll find which allows you to directly control the armies/empires.

No film has ever scared me.

:(

auron_16

your sig has. jk, jk

i'd probably say the japanese version of The Grudge- (Ju-On, i think its called.

Ju-On: The Grudge. That would be my scariest one as well. Freaked me out the first time we watched it in the dark. Ringu was pretty freaky as well, not quite as bad as Ju-On though.

MAX PAYNE!!!

it will be.

what do you guys think is (will be the) best movie based on a video game?

TheFlameProof

Mortal Kombat was awesome back in the day. The first one at least still holds up in recent times in my opinion. Cheesy, but not the abortion that the second film was.

I actually enjoyed Clear Sky mostly.

Like most recent games it does have it's flaws, and it starts very slowly and tends to be difficult in the start of the game. Once you get into it though, start getting upgraded assault rifles and proper body armour, and a nice detector it really does pick up. There are a few flaws but on the whole i've found it to be a fun and engaging game.

I personally think they tried to pack so many extra features into the game, it sometimes comes up short due to all the crap that is going on at the same time that you just can't manage. It's easy to look past most of those type of flaws though, the combat itself is fairly fluid and fun for an FPS. Personal opinion of course, though.

I've only just started playing Far Cry 2, but i've noticed the same problems others have - Excess travel for what should be simple kill missions, no leaning/prone.. Enemies tend to be a bit same-ish after a while and the shooting mechanics can be a bit wonky depending on your expectations.

Graphics and enviroment are awesome though, first time I pulled a bullet out of my leg with pliers I couldn't help but wince :P

Shame the fighting and dungeons in Oblivion are boring as hell.-Unreal-

While I wouldn't call them completely boring, I do tend to agree with this comment mostly.

Oblivion is a huge game, but it can also be very shallow when you spend a lot of time with it. Levelled monsters and fights mean the world itself is not as immersive as it first appears, and combat tends to be very clunky and boring after you've done it for a while.

If you install mods like OOO it tends to make the game more exciting and interesting, although it still misses the mark. The world is very same-ish, all the forts and dungeons are the same once you've seen a few.

It was a let down for me, I loved Morrowind and it's expansions - Morrowind was so much more epic than Oblivion. You'd run for 10 minutes in Morrowind and everything would be completely different - The settings, enviroments, the general "feel" of the world would be different from area to area. Oblivion is just one big forest with the occassional town plonked down. Planes of Oblivion were cool the first 2-3 times, but after that it's the same old, same old.

I invested about 50 hours into Oblivion and just lost interest, especially considering every NPC had the same racial voice and look, which really killed the immersion for me. You'd talk to Borus and then talk to a beggar in rags in the Imperial City, who has the exact same face, and the exact same voice.

edit - Damn, got sucked into the necro thread too, lol. The really need to bold the dates on threads so I pay more attention :P

How do you get horse armor, is it a mod or can you just buy it from a merchant?

(yes, i have the shivering isles expanision.)

DarkOblivionMan

You buy it directly from Bethesda. If you buy the DVD version of Knights of the Nine, you'll get this mod plus every other one you'd normally have to buy from them. I'd recommend getting the whole pack, unless you just want to pay for and download a couple of them.

I'm voting Far Cry 2 as well. From what I've seen it'll be a lot more involving than Warhead. Besides, we've had Crysis for a while already, Warhead seems to be more of the same (which isn't a bad thing of course). Far Cry = Completely different setting/style.

GS always ignore PC games but the game sucks anyway so don't bother yorself to look for a reviewDark_prince123

See, this is why reviews are nice. "the game sucks" doesn't really explain much in technical details about.. you know... anything.
