@Rat_King If someone else wants to use the PC for word processing, having a Steambox doesn't solve that any better than having another PC. My main point was unless this new thing is wildly inexpensive its not going to be better than just getting yourself another PC, which won't be so controlled and will be far more flexible.A PC is no more difficult to hook to a TV than a console. Sure if you want to have it located in another room then it would be, but so would a console.

@Rat_King The fear is it's trying to homogenize PC gaming to some lowest common denominator. The concern is it supplants traditional PC gaming by creating a new walled garden that will marginalize PC gaming even more and hijack it as just another dumbed down console. I can use my XBox for that experience.

Steambox is the most unnecessary thing ever. You can already EASILY output your PC to your TV the same way you do a console. One HDMI cable and a wireless controller. Those games that work well with gamepad are probably already available on a console, so there's no exclusive content, except maybe those games that work better with keyboard and mouse, which... puts you back at your desk. Pointless outside of creating a dumbed down PC for people to play PC games on. And isn't that already covered by the consoles?

@razamataz45 @MooncalfReviews You really need it spelled out? The general trend in software content is via walled off gardens and DRM where they can gouge developers 30% of profits, "license" you software instead of sell you it, require always on internet for piracy checks and keep your data in a cloud where they have access to it and control it's very existence and YOUR access to it. Apple, Microsoft, Electronic Arts, and many others subscribe to this model. Thankfully its suffering serious backlash.

@MooncalfReviews Exactly. They want to get control of how and when you use the content. With the ability to take it away if they desire.

This is the reason Cloud computing can never replace local storage. It has its uses for convenience, but not as a wholesale replacement. Nobody wants to be at the mercy of someone else for their own stuff.

@soccerpzn @WayneL23 Actually no, since that complaining has seemed to make a difference as several companies drop it.We really need a name for these corporate DRM Uncle Toms.

@juboner Well sure, you don't care about how much they sold, but that's all they care about. They're in it to make money. So by that definition they are quite satisfied. Even if you or I would have liked to see more 3rd party support. If they had made it more capable, it would have cost more to build and sell, and likely wouldn't be the success it was. They decided not to compete on the same battlefield as XBox360 and PS3 and carved their own niche. And you may be right about them repeating that strategy again.

@juboner How does outselling everyone else constitute "losing your way"? One thing I hope the new one rectifies is support from more third parties which Wii couldn't handle. I've got all all three consoles and a souped up PC and there are some excellent titles we enjoy on the Wii. It's not all casual kids stuff.

This guy is an idiot. They didn't get lucky. You don't "luck" into selling more consoles than anyone else. The new controller looks amazing and can (again) revolutionize the way games are made. That said I have no problem with a traditional controller as well.
