Yeah the OS is reeeeaaaaallllly slllllooooowwww and I am having a problem that the image displayed on the TV is drastically overscanned. (Cut off on the ends.) And I can't fix it with any options on the TV.
Otherwise I think it is a fantastic system and I like it. But it will never dethrone the Xbox 360 as my favorite console.
@silversix_ Not true IMHO. Mario Bros. U is REALLY REALLY fun and yesterday I was playing and I was able to go poop and I never had to stop playing. (I stopped for a second to wash my hands.) :) This is definitely useful.
@grey_fox1984 I think you missed the point. Tom is saying that home consoles and handhelds should be the same. The Vita in NOT current gen presentation and doesn't connect to your TV. And most of the games are pretty awful.
He is saying the next console should be both portable and be able to play at home on a big screen, and both experiences would be the same. I travel a lot and I think this would be awesome This is almost what we got with Wii U, but it is only semi portable.
The reason why iOS games are more popular than Halo is that virtually everyone has a smartphone. Not very many people are willing to lug around a dedicated device just for gaming, or incur the additional cost of a portable device just for gaming. And smartphone games and even portable games are shit compared to their console counterparts. All Tom is saying is that it would be a dream of his (and mine) if all this would change and the difference between console and handheld gaming would be seamless.
@Vodoo I bought a Wiiu so I can play all of Nintendo's first party titles... Like Mario U, which doesn't suck. I can't wait for the next Mario Kart and the next Zelda game. I have an Xbox 360 and spend LOTS of time on that, but Wii U/ Wii is a nice distraction from a recent stagnation of games for the system. The games, even the AAA ones just aren't that much fun anymore. I got a WiiU to play fun games like Mario Bros. and the like.
This being said, this isn't even a Nintendo game. And I think it has been penalized for doing something entirely different that is new to games. Sure there are plenty of zombie games, but this is unlike anything I have ever played. It is sad that it just wasn't executed better.
I don't get the whole logic behind your Nintendo was once a great company logic either. All of you complaining about Nintendo act like they are doing something wrong because they aren't doing things exactly the way you want them to do. Nintendo is trying to and has always tried to provide something innovative and new.
Sure they could have made a console that was exactly the same as what is already out there, but they chose to do something different, that has all the functionality of what is already out there, plus a controller that is well executed and that provides something new. If you want to play the old school way, there is the pro controller, or if you want to play with motion, there is the Wiimote, and if you want touchscreen functionality, there is the WiiU gamepad. There are plenty of options, on something that is at the same price point of shit that is almost 10 years old, that is TWICE as powerful.
The Wii U controller is really nice too. Yesterday I was playing Mario U and I had to 'pinch a loaf' instead of stopping and pressing pause, I took the gamepad with me and kept playing. I think that is pretty awesome.
The launch games don't even scratch the surface of what this system is able to do, but I can't wait to see what they come out with in the years to come.
I don't understand how this game is being penalized for NOT being an action game and ammo being scarce. It was intended to be a survival horror game. I have this game and I think it is okay, but not poor. It is just different and difficult.
I think this was meant to be a grueling game and it is. Even in your 'safehouse' there is never a feeling of safety, since zombies even attack you there. There is definitely an uncomfortable feeling that permeates this game. It is unlike anything I have ever played.
This being said, the game is pretty meh. The graphics are pretty meh and the controller interface has a pretty steep learning curve for me. I haven't finished playing it, but I would say a 4.5 is too low. It is more like a 6.5 so far. This is more like a gory hardcore tech demo showing off the Wii Us capabilities than anything.
@aniforprez All those points are accurate and valid, but there still is an okay game here. I think a 4.5 is being overly critical since this game is so different than any other game there has been before. I think the IGN score is more fitting for this game. It isn't horrible, but it isn't great either.
I haven't bought a wrestling game since I was in college, WCW vs. NWO Revenge, but I just bought this last night. It is really fun and not overly difficult. I am having a lot of fun playing it. I like how easy it is to do counters/ reversals now. It is also very cool the attention to detail in this game. The crowd no longer looks like cardboard cutouts.
It is definitely a great game. My only complaint is some of the cheesy music, but that isn't the fault of THQ. 9.5/10
