I want a new traditional half life game.

But as some have alluded too, if Alyx is successful, i wouldn't be surprised if it only signals to Valve to make more VR half life games.

Ultimately killing traditional half life games for good. Lets be honest, Valve cant hang with modern developers in making full fledged traditional FPS games, they cant compete with Cyberpunk or Doom Eternal.

Im sure it takes much less effort, time, and resources for them to build an on rails VR half life game, and as Gaben has always showed, its about what makes the most money with the least amount of effort involved.

Half Life Alyx is less about changing VR and more about selling hardware and using the half life brand to do that. Lets get real here, Half Life Alyx is their tech demo for their new VR hardware.

We are not getting a traditional Half Life game, if we do ill happily admit i was wrong.

This is hilarious. Making games in VR is harder than it is normally. You also can't compare Cyberpunk which is a huge open world game to a linear story shooter like Half-Life. Obviously Cyberpunk will take longer, and would take even longer if it were VR.

Red Dead 2 took around 7 years. Is God of War a cheap game for chumps just because it took less time to make?

Yay another VR thread. Too bad most or all of those games will suck.

The ones that have released so far are highly rated. Alyx is up next so good luck with that one sucking, and OP forgot to mention the sequel to one of 2017's highest rated games (in general) also releases later this year.

My problem with highly rated VR games is that they are rated according to other VR games.. if they were based on the industry standard I feel the overall ratings would be much lower. Maybe I'm wrong, and maybe people do actually truly enjoy them. I just couldn't get into it.. at least not yet. To me it feels like it's still a little too soon and things just aren't there yet, but I am happy for those that enjoy it and feel their money was well spent. Me on the other hand, well, out of all the things I have ever purchased related to gaming I regret PSVR the most (at the several requests from a couple friends). I have tried a couple others as well, but I still have not had a single experience I thought was truly great. I think that perhaps by the time something like Google Glass with VR functionality becomes a thing I may be a little more interested. It's very immersion breaking for me by having a heavy/clunky headset on that is hot and keeps fogging up with 47 cords hanging off of it.. but to each their own.

Nah your 100% right, a VR title will be scored as a VR title. Because VR is still in its baby stage the scores go pretty easy on them for the most part.

Just like Mobile games are scored as a mobile game. a 8/10 mobile game doesnt mean its as good as a 8/10 traditional game, same with games built around VR.

A game like Doom eternal or Cyber punk will be scored as a traditional gaming experience. Which is the toughest criteria of the 3. And you know what, both those games might let you use VR if you want in the future as an add on, but thank god they aren't built around VR or i wouldn't want to play them.

What you just said makes no sense.

No, you're wrong.

You either haven't played the good games, or you have a very very small minority opinion. No to mention you haven't even used a PC or wireless headset, and fogging issues shouldn't be happening that often.

Star Ocean 3. All the characters exist inside a game simulation as NPCs. They exit the simulation and meet with their creators.

Literally comes out of nowhere.

OP is the literal definition of insanity. Every statement you just said is completely false.

Gotta love the tech demo argument for 15 hour games.

Someone does need to take the F.E.A.R formula and make a VR game out of though. Mixture of Boneworks physics, F.E.A.R AI, and juicy impact sounds and effects.

Hellblade was incredible and one of my top 15 favorite games of all time. Going to wait for VR support for the PC version though, since that's how Ninja Theory wants people to play.

@darthbuzzard: But most VR games ARE tech demos.

This is Valve we're talking about, who even said years ago that the games they make in VR will be AAA games. There are also loads of full VR games at this point.
