The generation of run-and-gun, trigger-happy FPS gamers probably have no idea what "tactical shooter" means. They probably believe that real soldiers just run around and rely on their reflexes on real battlefields too.
So true about multi-player vs single-player. There are tons of single-player FPS out there. Tactical shooters are meant to be played with or against other humans. I'd rather have them focus on the multi-player aspect than make a single-player campaign -- there aren't that many stories to tell about special ops that haven't been told before...
This is one of those rare games where impatient, immature trigger-happy FPS gamers will have a hard time enjoying and that's fine with me.
"Even if only half of copies shipped are sold to consumers (rather conservative hypothesis)"
So I did not assume the rest of the 12m copies sold to consoles.
DOTA is a free-to-play game. You are the one comparing apples to oranges here.
Diablo 3 sales, it is 30m ALL platforms combined and includes expansion Reaper of Souls AND Ultimate Evil. (Source: Forbes.)
Comparing different genre is not flawed in the context of the discussion of whether a given platform is viable: SALES matter in this discussion, not genre. No matter the genre in question, if a game sell very well on a given platform, it is more argument for the viability of the platform. Period.
Fallout 4 shipped 12m copies; 1.2 copies on PC first 24 hours. Imagine the number of copies on consoles. Even if only half of copies shipped are sold to consumers (rather conservative hypothesis), that's huge compared to PC-only Legacy of the Void's 1m in 24 hours (Wings of Liberty sold 4.6m copies total). Diablo 3 sold 7.8m copies total, with help of consoles versions.
And they say console is dead, why develop for consoles, PC is so much better.
Fact of the matter is sales on consoles are generally much much higher than on PC. Blizzard thriving on PC-only games is but an outlier. Pretty much every other developers have to also develop for consoles, if not exclusively, if they hope to thrive.

For the 512GB version, it's $3500CAD (in the US, it's $2700USD). That means when it's finally available to Canadians, that 1TB version will probably cost around $4500CAD. CRAZY!
