are there any games out yet that would benefit from the S vs the original? anything that may have different/higher settings the S would make use of? will there be updates to existing games that will allow them to reach higher frame rates or have more or better effects, added post processing, etc?
the only thing i've seen marketed is that certain games will run in 4K with HDR colors in the future. will these games be outfitted with extra large textures that will make use of the higher resolution or will it just be like an upscaled 900/1080p?
@kazeswen: your OP is about, "I tried to build a PC yesterday for true 4K gaming, and was shocked at the actual cost of a real legit 4K machine that can do 4K at over 60fps consistent". so your statement makes no sense. what i have posted is what you would need to hit those goals, not just to satisfy your tech craving for more cores & your ability to burn stuff, saving ~$1000 to reach the same goal. you also don't "need" your older and less demanding games on an SSD. so instead of $220, you'd spend $160 for the 480GB SSD and a 2TB 7200rpm(which still isn't needed to run games at 4K anyway, that was a bit of luxury storage added to the system). what makes you think you need a RAID array?
and the X99 platform is "dead tech". there is no future lines coming for it and no advancements will be made with the chipset. Z170 offers more PCIe lanes, more USB 3.0 options, and is still improving with another line of future CPUs on the way.
@Sohereiam: and this is totally irrelevant to the OP. people that are worried about having to upgrade are not those "people who really care about the latest tech (and have a bunch of spare bucks)".
and i've been running the same hardware since 2014, Z97 / i7 / R9 / SSDs, and am still getting 60fps at 1080p with maxed out settings in everything. so how am i upgrading "all the time"? you upgrading from the One(2014) to a One S(2016) would get you more benefit than me going up to Z170. so your argument makes no sense anyway.
@NTenseify: what's insulting, stating that this is some little kid's cartoon game? sounds like you have some insecurity issues of your own if it bothers you to hear what this actually is.
@kazeswen @smokerob79: X99 is pretty much a dead chipset. Z170 will be continuing to improve and add new lines and features. and even though I would be going for the highest core count available with the newer Z170s coming, what games make use of more than 4 cores anyway?
16GB of RAM in quad channel is all you will need. it doesn't matter how much you may see it fill up, the processes you are running cannot calculate fast enough to even use what is stored there.
unless you can find a crazy-ass deal for a 1TB, 480GB of SSD space for the latest games that are loading larger textures and maps. that's 15-20 games. another 2-4TB of 7200rpm for older and less demanding games.
what games in the world still need a optical drive? none. even if some much older ones might, find an image.
lots of <$150 cases out there that will offer anything the 760T does. and Corsair fans suck so the fact that it comes loaded with them matters none.
and most Thermaltake PSUs are cheap garbage full of low budget capacitors, only their Toughpower series is good quality. a nice EVGA G series 800w = ~$100.
so, that's minus ~$1000 off your total for a good 4K system. and no one ever claimed it took chump change. people thinking their next consoles will reach it will be disappointed, again. even if it was possible at console prices, the quality settings will be so much lower it will be pointless at 4K.
and a good 4K 60Hz TV will be the same quality as most monitors out there for half of the price. possibly overclockable to 70-75Hz.
@asiel_code_7: cards are getting cheaper as we speak so there's a possibility the next line may be able to handle 1440p at 60fps with modern effects and large enough textures at a decent price. at the moment those consoles would cost you nearer to $1000 to be able to reach those limits.
i imagine any 2K or 4K games coming to the One S will be set at VERY low settings with zero post-processing to even reach 30fps.
@wraith_097: i never saw any mention that you are only allowed a single playthrough. or even that he is done playing this one in particular. why does everyone presume this person isn't going back out to explore and enjoy the game as intended? taking one quick trip to the "end" of a game does not mean you are done playing for the rest of your life.
