Just doesnt make any sense. Its no GTA franchise, but how come they are not getting free like the ps3 /

alfy57

MS's strategy: secure deals for timed exclusivity on CoD map packs and DLC for big games like GTA and Elder Scrolls, which you have to pay full price for, and everyone else gets a month later anyway.

Sony's strategy: secure deals to give free bonus content, either exclusive content, or content that everyone else has to pay for.

This shouldn't be a surprise at this point.

Dear TC,

I was playing games online on PSN all day. Thanks for the concern. What are you going to be doing when Live is down for maintenance coming up?

Also, was it really necesary to make two threads about this?

Umm.. not agreeing/disagreeing here, but comparing xbox live being shut down for MAINTENANCE vs BEING HACKED or technical glitches is not the same at all. You should've brought up the "holiday CoD4 crash" that happened to live if anything. - What will i do during the maintenance coming? Be grateful Ms is constantly changing and improving their products, and giving me new features and stuff to make use of. So yeah.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you didn't know that this thread, and the other one the TC made yesterday, is in response to SCHEDULED downtime for maintenance? And further that said downtime actually hasn't prevented people from playing games online, provided they signed in before the maintenance started?

[QUOTE="mario-galaxys"]I do not see the point of this thread in System Wars. Why is it here and not in the PlayStation 3 forum? Hexagon_777

PSN was down for over two months this year already.. Why do they need 14 more hours of our valuable gaming time? :|

I know there was that 3 or 3 and a half weeks or so in Apr/May... When were the other 5 weeks? And as I mentioned previously, this 14 hours of "downtime" didn't actually prevent you from playing single player, OR online multiplayer, provided you made sure to sign in before the maintenance started.

I can't even log on, I thought it was just for the store and account. Oh Well!!

-DarthMaul-

Yeah, the servers that verify you when you log in are affected. If you signed in before it started, though, then you could have stayed signed in. I've been playing games online the whole time. Wonder if the same will be true when Live goes down for maintenance coming up, since "you get what you pay for" and all that?

Well that, and you know, the fact that, as I pointed out previously, it doesn't even affect anyone that had the foresight to sign in before the maintenance started. I'm still on PSN, and still playing games online. Shouldn't the PSN downtime have started 4-5 hours ago?

Well, you get what you pay for...

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/121/1212621p1.html

Sony's Patrick Seybold outlines the maintenance, which is scheduled to last a 14 hour period on November 17th, from "approximately 8am until 10pm PST." During this time, the PlayStation Store, account management options and account registration options will be unavailable. Seybold does note that online gameplay may randomly work for some games, however.

So when is this supposed to happen again? 8am PST? That's a couple hours ago, right? Just making sure... since I'm on PSN playing online games right now...

Out of the 10+ hours I played and or watched it played first hand, I didn't see any big bugs or glitches, game breaking or otherwise. What are the supposed issues making this game unplayable?

It would kinda be a bit more credible if developers and people in the industry vote for it instead of us.

999realthings

Viewer votes don't determine the winner. If you look at the top of each category, it says "Tell the world who should win" then says smaller and in parenthesis that "the VGA Advisory Council votes on winners." So there's a board that decides the actual winners, just like there is for, say, the Academy Awards. No different than the GS Awards. We can vote, and they'll list the winner of the Reader's Choice votes... but the actual winners are the ones the editor's pick.

Edit: For those interested, the members of the advisory council, who decide the VGAs, are:

Andy Mcnamara from Game Informer

Brian Crecente from Kotaku

Chris Baker, Wired

Chris Koehler, Wired

Chris Slate, Nintendo Power

Chris Grant, Joystiq

Dale North, Destructoid

Francesca Reyes, OXM

Gary Steinman, Games Radar

Geoff Keighly, Spike

Jeff Gertsman, Giant Bomb

Jeff Jensen, Entertainment Weekly

Jerry Holkins, Penny Arcade

Mike Krahulik, Penny Arcade

John Davison, CBS Interactive

Logan Decker, PC Gamer

Lou Keston, the Associated Press

Mike Snider, USA Today

Rich Greenhill, Yahoo Games

Sam Kennedy, IGN/1Up

Scott Alexander, Playboy

Shane Satterfield, Spike

Stephen Totilo, Kotaku

Tal Blevins, IGN

Tina Amini, Complex Magazine

[QUOTE="ConsoleCounsla_"][QUOTE="o0HAPPY0o"]Good post.

heretrix

Not really. games is what determines a system, and 360 is lacking huge. Also the controller is crap compared to the DualShock. and online being better was back in 2006. Nowadays PSN > live.

It has plenty of multiplats and last time I checked those are games and a lot of them. Exclusives aren't the only thing you can play on a system.

Which goes back to what I said. Just as an example, let's say there were 20 multiplats. Which would be better, a system with 20 multiplats, and 1-2 exclusives, or a system with the exact same 20 multiplats, and 9-10 exclusives? Plenty of multiplats is a great thing to have, but it has no impact on deciding which system to buy or which had the better year. Exclusives define a system. Different costs and features define a system. Multiplats do not.
