Hell, biggest movie of all-time, The Wizard of Oz, is adaptation from a book, as is Gone with the Wind, Planet of the Apes, Snow White and the Seven Swarfs, The Godfather, Jaws, and Jurassic Park, to name a few.

Explain "biggest movie of all time", please.
Highest grossing film ever?...Avatar
Most attendance in theaters?....Gone With the Wind
Longest running time?...Modern Times Forever (240 hours)
The Wizard of Oz wasn't even the biggest movie of it's release year (1939). It had $3 million in box office revenue until it was re-released in theatres in 1998 (even then it only had 15 million). Gone With the Wind (1939) had 189 million dollars it's opening year....pretty, pretty good. Also, it was almost 4 hours long, so even THAT beats the run time of Wizard of Oz.
Sorry, I just hate when people say things as fact when they are obviously not facts.
