And there it is. The new gen has crappy uninspired games too. What was the one from last gen at launch, Ryse or something? Super pretty but nothing beneath all the shine. In a way it's reassuring or maybe just grounding to have a solidly mediocre game knock the shine off a new hard to get toy. I haven't got anything ordered and I'm not looking to buy for a while yet but I'll admit to feeling that weird sense of urgency for a new console. This makes it easier to control that impulse and see how things pan out for a while before buying. Not that I could find one right now anyway.

....

I mean, pretty. In a God of Darksiders kind of way. Maybe I'm just getting older and cynical but, I may not need a next gen console.

@i_p_daily: From reviews I've seen it's capped at 30.

Well, I've just finished watching a review that had a very different take. It's from skillup and he was actually angry about 67 hours of his life being taken without even a decent gameplay experience to look back on. I've got no dog in this fight as I've never been a fan of the franchise. But it's interesting to see the corporate game sites vs independent reviewers take on games.

Why would anyone listen to this lawn jockey? "TWELVE TIMES THE DETAIL. IT JUST WORKS" He lies and then he lies some more.

This may not go down well but, I think Halo should have ended after 3, within the timeline I mean. I enjoyed Reach. Or to look at it another way, Halo should have died rather than go to 343. They will always be trying to make a "Halo" type game but they'll never have a compelling story to tell with the game so whatever they put out will become stale once the newness has worn off. There's just nothing under the surface, which was admittedly very pretty in 5 but didn't compel me to finish it. It's one of the most uninteresting and joyless game experiences I've ever had. Just like all the great entertainment series that are being rehashed time and time again, it's being made by a committee of people giving input not by a group of people with a singular vision.

@CashPrizes: I thought that too until my pc hadn't connected to the internet for several weeks. I wanted to play something and knew there would be tons of updates I didn't want to wait for so I disconnected from the internet. Steam told me I couldn't use any of my software until I had an internet connection to verify my rights. I REALLY miss the days of having an install disc and opening games directly. Now even with an install disc you have register with steam or origin or some other unholy launcher. Mouse and keyboard, customization, all that stuff makes a great argument for pc. 100 different launchers for pc makes a pretty good argument for consoles.

She's suing them because she agreed to license terms she didn't like, is that it? Oh, I see. She's dumb. I will say I've started collecting physical media again because of the potential loss of my library for whatever reason. But suing? She's spoiled and is throwing a tantrum.

Games have absolutely been changed to drive user spending. But knowing that makes spending money feel terrible because in reality THAT'S the game. I'm actually playing "how much can they get out of me" and I paid full price to be the main character. If that's what they are going to do they could at least make the games compelling and a lot of them aren't. I mean Avengers and Anthem?

Oh my god, I just can't. I'd never have believed, after putting 1500+ hours into 2 and at least that in 1, that I'd bored by new content in a BL game. There's a great game in there but there's just so much in 3 that you have to put up with that just ruins the experience. I will say I'm grateful they didn't make monetizing obnoxious or get pushy with it. Also that they made a complete experience and didn't just shove out a sandbox and expect us to make our own fun. I can forgive a lot because of that, even the twin villains that were so awful. But yeah, after a year I'm kind of over it and it makes me sad. I STILL go back and play 2.
