*Sigh* Decisions. Decisions.

Alright. I basically have all my funds for my new video cards in order. But right here I'm facing a dilema. As you know, I had originally planned to get 7900 GTX SLI. The only problem is that now maybe it would be a better decision to get X1900XTX Crossfire instead. As far as I know, ATi has many advantages over nvidia:

  • Better image quality
  • Better AA
  • Better super AA
  • Better AF
  • HDR + AA at the same time
  • Better high resolution scaling

etc. I would have been contempt on doing this, only now this would cost me an extra $100 then what I had originally planned since I'd also have to get a Crossfire mobo. And I'd also have to swap out my mobo, which I have no hope with doing without help from someone. And I've also heard there are some issues with Crossfire and some games, and how it doesn't scale as well.

Anyways, if any of you fine people here can help me make a decision. It would be greatly appreciated.

On the road again....

....or maybe not quite :P. Anyways, this week is my spring break, and I've decided to spend it in Williamsburg, Virginia. I've done nothing so far except hang around the resort I'm staying at, and playing RE4 :P. But anyways, I plan to go to the various historical and authentic colonial attractions here like I did last year, and maybe even go to the Busch Gardens down here :o. Anyways, before I left, I even managed to install Fallout and Grim Fandango (games I've never played before) on my old PC, but not without almost losing my foot :o. But  besides that, I feel great so far, and I hope my vacation turns out great. See you all later!

Level 26!

Cyber Lip. That's all fine and all for me. Notes of interest yesterday:

  • Very successful CS:S office match. I found out I was really good with the famas.
  • Installed Enemy Territory yesterday. Looking for someone to teach me for an important match tonight.

Just spent my first extended period with a 360...

Alright, I'll admit it. In the midst of the holiday rush when the 360 first came out and the shortages that follow through until even now, I still haven't been able to secure a 360 to call my own. Neither have a spent any more than a few seconds with one until tonight. Tonight, I went to a friend's Easter party, and I found out that one of the hosts there in fact had a 360, and was willing to have me spend some time with it. So, I went to his den downstairs where he had it hooked up to a 32 inch LCD HDTV, and played it for about 3 hours, or so. The only real game I tried out was CoD2 and its SP, which I had already played through a bit on PC, so most of that was pretty redundant. But in any case, I got a chance to see how it compared to the PC version. The control itself was noticely inferior to the kb/m control in the PC version, and I found myself to be checking my aim or pressin the wrong buttons more than once (due in part to some poor button layout). I will admit that it ran noticebly better than it could on my already monster PC, which either speaks for its superior power, or optimization. But all that aside, I also got some analysis of the hardware itself to go with this. The controller, in my opinion, is not at all cracked up what it is to be. The controller is similar to controller S with some minor tweaks and such, but the overall controller feels a lot differently in many aspects. However, I did not find it to be the most comfortable controller or the controller I've seen with the best button best placement, which lead to some of the said difficulties with control in CoD2. Nevertheless, it's still a nice controller, but not the nicest controller I've yet to hold and play with. I also had some analysis of the 360's interface out of game. It seems to be well organized, functional, and has most of the functions needed for an effective playing environment in my opinion. I haven't tried any of the live features, so I cannot comment on those yet. The console itself, I noticed, seemingly generated a lot of heat and noise while while running games, which might lead to some difficulties if run for very long and extended periods of time, or if the hardware is stressed too much.

Overall, the 360 seems  to be a solid console and a solid contender for next-gen. It's not the best console I've ever played, but it still is promising and I hope its future turns out good.

Yes! 7900 GTX SLI FTW!

That's right. I'm abandoning my older plans and am getting 2x 7900 GTX 512 MB. I can't wait to see how this will turn out. I will be able to play F.E.A.R. completely maxed out and HL2 with 8x AA :O. And Far Cry maxed out at 1600x1200 with HDR :O. I can't wait if I can actually pull this off. If all goes according to plan, I'll have this in the first week of May, and a phsyx card to go with it in a few weeks afterwards.

My PC is giving me a lot of trouble...

...or maybe it's just me. Anyways, that VGA cooler that I put to install on my 7800 GTX isn't going that well. I mean, not that the cooler isn't working (I haven't even installed it yet), but it's the fact that I can't figure out how to get the card out. My main difficulty is unplugging the source of power for the card. It seems as though the system wiring itself is a little bundled and messed up (note: I didn't build this PC, so I didn't know the wiring was in this shape, and I'm at a lost of what to do. I'm going to try to do fix it again later today, but I may need some more help. Here are some pictures of my problem if anyone can help:

Level 24!!

Yeah, I know this is many days late, but I reached level 24. That's all for now. BTW, 4000 posts too. I'm a slow poster, so this is a big achievement for me.

Looks like I might invest in 7900 GT SLI now....

I just found out about the 7900 series launch yesterday, and I saw that the 7900 GT is in fact cheaper than the 7800 GTX and more powerful. So I figured instead of getting up my previously planned 7800 GTX SLI, I should sell my 7800 GTX, and get this instead. Sound good?
