@noodles227: I game primarily on PC. I’m aware of all the shooters out there. I’m not into mil-sims or similarity realistic shooters. I’ve played enough to know that they’re cool and interesting to play around with, but ultimately not what I’m looking for. I’m looking for a shooter of old, but I know they won’t make that type of game anymore. Old Halo, old COD, old Battlefield, Killzone, Resistance, Medal of Honor, etc. Before the flashy cosmetics and microtransaction takeover that gameplay now revolves around.
Insurgency is good. It’s a solid blend between realism and arcade. It comes the closest to what I want than anything else, but it still isn’t that great. When I say “more serious” I don’t mean “super serious and hardcore.” I mean more serious and more mature than the current trend of cringe-culture. I have my eyes on Ground Branch. I’ll get that when it’s out of EA.
I have tried quite a few of the games you mentioned, but as I said, not quite what I’m looking for. Verdun and its sequels/successors are pretty darn good. Red Orechestra 2 was good. But I’ll be damned if they ever make anything like Bad Company 2 again. Nobody has the nuts, not even EA themselves.
@mogan: Absolutely. Such is the way of gaming, though. It has to be trendy and appeal to the youth. How do you do that? Ridiculous and shiny microtransactions.
Unbelievably cringey. This stuff makes sense in games like Fortnite, but makes absolutely no sense in COD. I’m really glad I didn’t buy this, and now I know I definitely won’t buy MW3. You know what, I don’t think I’ll ever buy another COD. It’s already been a while since I have and it only gets worse.
Patiently waiting for a shooter that actually takes itself somewhat seriously.
