Wholy cow I am telling you I found some awsome deals on PSP games yesterday at Toy'R'Us. They had a number of highly popular games like loco'Roco, and the new Monsterhunter game as well as dark mirror and others for half off what the other big retailers are selling them for. Also Circuit city has Infected on sale for 17 dollars so I bought it.
Infected is such a sick warped twisted game. It is a thrid person shooter with missions just hte perfect length for portable play.
I saw something really annoying yesterday also. The Wal-mart across town from where I work has the TV I want for a full 100 dollars less than what the one I work is selling it for. The really annoying thing is in 2 weeks I get a coupon for an extra 10% off a one Item purchase, but it is only good at my store :-( what a waist what a waist. Hopefully in hte next two weeks the price will come down. So I don't feel ripped off when I buy it.
I know I said I would be posting some game play footage, but well, my friend never showed up and never even called to say he wasn't coming; so, I didn't do any gaming on monday and spent all yesterdat shopping. Sorry.
In any case I have a product recommend for all you all out there.
It's the Pelican "Travel Power Pack": for Nintendo DS Lite, it aslo works with DS Phat, GBA, and GB micro.
now the reason this thing is great, is that not only does it work with all 4 systems, but it has a 12v DC to USB ADAPTER!
This means that any device that you can charge or power off a usb port can be powered off this!
Personally, my phone charges through Mini USB (if you have a Razor or most modern phones so does yours, and you proably have a USB to mini cable laying around if not they cost liks 3 bucks), my bluetooth head set charges off mini usb, I have a usb charge cable for my PSP, I own a USB charging flashlight, a usb night light, and a usb massager. This lets me charge/power any of them staight out of my car!
You can buy a usb to just about anything charge cable online for about 4 dollars but the charge bases usually cost about 10. Guess what this whole pack, wich comes with a a flashlight even, only cost $10 bucks at game crazy! I've found them for $7 at Target, and other places.
I don't care if you own a DS or not this is still a useful product.
In any case sorry about the no video, but hope you like this anyway. Ohhh yeah and I finnaly got the video blogger icon woot.

Vista Impressions
by jro2020 on Comments
So here I am in the bath tub typing on my Pocket PC phone, and giving you my impressions of windows vista.
I installed Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit edition on my acer laptop last night. I have to say while Vista does have some good improvements, it us Ultra finicky.
For starters none of it' default drivers will recognize my sound card. Windows update finds it but I seem to be having issues getting it to install the updates it down loads. Since I have yet to get the updated video driver working it keeps saying I don't have 3D acceleration so I can't even see the pretty new effects.
On the plus side it is pretty easy to use thought I preferred cascading menus to this weird file tree thing it has going on.
The sidebar gadgets are cute, but basically useless. They include a lot of toys from windows for workgroups 3.1 So I can't even pretend they are new. I mean these are features they decided were of no use 12 years ago when Win95 came out. I do however like that the sticky notes are back.
I will get back to you later with more when I figure out if running in 64 bit mode really is faster, like it should be.

Misery Loves Comapny, and it sells
by jro2020 on Comments
Well, I knew it from working two years in TV, but it's nice to know it still holds true; Misery sells. I've been getting pretty good hits since I posted my last blog. But something seems to be going right.
Tuesday, the day before valentines day, my wife and I decided to go down to Salt Lake City. It is about 250 miles down there, but neither of us had been before.
That is where I got my new phone, a Cingular 8525, a pocket PC phone that I am using to write this blog. That was 425 dollars after taxes, with a Walmart discount, and a two year contract extention! Lucky for me my old pocket pc was having problems or I never would have convinced my wife to let me have it.
I have to say, they have some pretty parks, majestic mountians, and moving murals. They also have the worst drivers in the western United States. I swear to god these people are all idiots.
So, in gamespot news expect a video blog today or tomorrow because I just reached level ten! It will either be an introductory video, or I might bust open my DS Phat in preperation to paint it. Think I might even show you the gaming achievement I am most proud of.
[video=diEwkTqo5bkJuzfX]
Also, I got a new portable DVD player to replace the one that is dying using the last of our wedding present money.
Well that's all for today TTFN.

My life is el crapola
by jro2020 on Comments
So in the last week or so the following things happened that made me feel like dung. My portable DVD Player Broke down, My phone got stolen (possibly just lost but.....), A veneer came off one of my teeth, the most fun person to talk to at work switched to another department, My wife had to go to the doctor (and get X rays), My wife got a ticket.
So, I looks like I'm about to have to output a lot of cash to make things better, but ohhh wait. This paycheck is tiny because my wife and I went on vacation for one week to see her parents whom she hadn't seen for about two years. Firstly that cost a pretty penny, and secondly I don't get vacation pay to cover any of that time off.
Yes I am looking for sympathy, please comment it might cheer me up.
Okay lets see positives, positives, I found two killer deals on micro SD cards, Valentines Day is Wednesday and I am got my wife a hilarious present (I can't wait for her reaction), got a good deal on a Gamebridge, got a good deal on universal S-Video cables to use with the game bridge, I have a wife to celebrate valentines day with, I've been watching "My Name Is Earl" on my PSP and it is hilarious. I got our state tax return (not much though), on the 8th of May I get some sort of bonus from my job probably about $500 for me and about $800 for my wife. Lets hope I can make it till then.
Okay that feels a bit better getting it out there, and it is good to think on the positives, except that about half of them are about spending money I need for other things.
Ohh and I got my N64 from my parents house yippy

Do you homebrew?
by jro2020 on Comments
I do.
In fact I think homebrew is almost as important a reason to support a system as the official games. I also think there are alot of people out there who would support homebrew if they knew how easy it is to run.
If you have an old enough PSP you can play homebrew straight from your memory stick because Sony didn't require the code to be signed. In newer versions of their firmware you have to abuse exploits.
If you have a DS you can trot right on down to Best Buy, and Pick up a Music 'n' Games by Datel, or a Max Media Dock also by Datel, The MMD has a few problems but the Newer MnG is much better. Of course there are other flash carts out there but since they support the play of backup games they are illegal in the US at least.
Other people may not use homebrew because they are under the impression that it is low quality. Admittedly there are a lot of games out there in the homebrew scene that I could care less about. But it is nice to be able to play a game like GO, chess, or mancala, which would never make a release as a full blown $20-40 dollar game.
More important are the applications like Fileassistant++ for the PSP which lets me do everything that explorer does in windows, on my PSP with no need to hook up to a computer. Or Wifi sniffer that lets me sniff wifi hot spots without booting up my laptop. For the DS there are apps that let you chat with Voice over IP (Voip) as well as draw and type over the internet. Think Pictochat on steroids. And Moonshell is a mighty fine Media player for the DS. Plus calculators, calanders, and a host of other PIM functions.
So go on, if you have a PSP Home brew is so easy for you to do. And if you have a DS 40 bucks for a Devices that lest you play music and Movies, as well as homebrew isn't bad. Think of it this way: $120+$40=$160 If you get a datel MnG that comes with a 128mb card, enough for some Home brew as well as space left over for an hours worth of MP3s. You've still paid about a hundred dollars less than you would have for a PSP, and how you can do everything it can, plus you get to play the better line up of official games!
BTW a homebrew Web browser for the DS is under development as we speak.

PSP Earphones w/ Remote Sony VS Intec
by jro2020 on Comments
Like most people who bought a PSP you probably have a mega or giga pack, and unlike those lucky? people who got a value pack at launch you got no cool Earphones w/ Remote in your box.
If you are like me the $25 price tag seems a bit extreme, now I got a pair for Christmas from a friend so I lucked out. The rest of you might want to check out the Intec Earphonds With Remote for the PSP, which I found at Shopko, list price $12. Since they were and extra 20% off the day I found them I thought you all might like a review. So here goes:
PSP Earphones: SONY VS INTEC
White Sony on top, Black and Silver Intec on the Bottom.
Price: Sony $25, Intec @ Shopko $12. Sony 0 Intec 1
Ease of Use: Sony's buttons cannot be sepperated by touch, Intec has seperate raised buttons Easy to push. Sony 0 Intec 2
Included Earphones sound quality: Intec Reproduces a wider range of pitches but is a bit tinny. Sony is crystal clear but lacks deep bass, and the highest Highes. Draw Sony 0 Intec 2
Length of cord: Both are the same length within an inch of each other, but because Intec Uses a Y design in thier headphones, splitting in the middle, and Sony uses an L design Splitting at the left Ear Sony has a longer effective length. Also Intec has no markings for left or right ear. Sony1.5 Intec 2
Pass through: Both remotes are compatible with any Ear/Headphones, so it is important that they be distortion free. The Sony remote is completely without distortion, once or twice using the Intec I heard static but have not been able to reproduce it on command : Sony 2 Intec 2
Clip: There is no way around it the Clip on the Intec Remote simply holds tighter and more securely than the clip on the Sony remote, thus keeping the cord from swinging and making the remote easier to find and control. Sony 2 Intec 3
Extras: Sony gives you no extras, where as Intec comes with a detachable clip that hooks your earphones to the spot on your psp meant for a wrist strap. It's not a lot but it keeps the two items together. Sony 2 Intec 4
Compatability with PSP Armor: Both the Sony and Intec make it hard to close case armor around your PSP due to the extra large plugs. The problem is worse with Intec but there is not enough difference for me to give Sony a point. Sony 2 Intec 4
Style: Sony's has this white with a circular control pad thing going on. Read that as people will think you are using an Ipod unless you show them the PSP. Which is cool but just doens't match the style of the PSP. Intec on the other hand has a black on silver number that matches the PSP style. No points either way here since It is a matter of choice as to which is better. Sony 2 Intec 4
Closing thoughts: Sony makes a more comfortable set of equipment for must walking around and listening to music, but if you actually want to control it, which is why you buy something with a remote than the Intec set is a better cheaper choice.
