@cboye18: Because Persona represents the last of a dying breed of AAA games, the turned based JRPG. There are no more AAA turned based JRPGs in modern day console gaming.
Persona and Dragon Quest are the franchises that still carry the traditional turnd based moniker and still have high production budgets like Final Fantasy.
So for those of us who love traditional turn based RPGs, Persona and Dragon Quest are the last of a dying breed of games, that no longer exist in modern gaming lexicon.
They are like stubborn old warriors who refuse to change despite the shift in market trends. For that we love them.
@Xristophoros: I'm talking about AAA Console games, not those cheap lowbudget mobile games. I know there are dozens of low budget turn based games on 3DS, PSP, PSVita, even mobile phones, but AAA highbudget turn based RPGs are rare as fck.
You are more likely to find a Dodo bird than a modern AAA turn based RPG.
Every RPG has gone to auto combat where you control only 1 character and everyone else in your party does whatever the hell they want.
I care about turn based RPGs because it is the ONLY physical way to control every character in your party without using preset gambit systems. For me the combat and strategy involved in turned based far outweighs modern auto combat RPGs, so yes the combat system is the primary reason why I play these games.
Cause lets face it every single JRPG ever made has the exact same characters, the exact same story and the exact same music. I don't play them for the story ever.
JRPG formula (hasn't changed for 2 decades)
JRPG = Loner lead, spunky sidekicks, lost technology, humanity vs nature theme, god complex theme, settings either highschool tweens, scifi or ancient fantasy, add tons of BS pseudo philosophy or anti-war pro-nature pro-environment progaganda, add final boss with God complex = Every JRPG ever made.
Inafune has got to stop making his games so damn hard, this ain't 1989 anymore, we don't wear massive shoulder pads, and mainstream gamers do not want to play games that they cannot beat.
Hasn't he learned anything from the failure of Might No 9, stop living in the past Inafune, get with the system. Games need to be just hard enough to be challenging and thats it, modern gamers play for the story mostly.
MS has got to wup some sense into this man, and get him into the 21st century. Or your gonna end up with another unbeatable game that nobody wants to play...cough Mighty no 9
@jeremybristol: Wasn't referring to that. I was saying why bother hack the New NES consoles for roms, when there are more powerful consoles that do the same thing and better.
@Relvar: True and where the fck is the Mummy fighting wardrobe, the leather jacket, the hat, the archeologist pants, and the whip? Tom Cruise looks like he's going out to buy groceries.
You can't fight no mummies in a pair of slacks and an Old Navy shirt.
