@spartanx169x: By both console makers switching to a more universal x86 architecture (essentially easy PC development) the plan was to not have to worry about backwards compatibility anymore. That includes PS5. It was every generation of console having it's own obscure and proprietary OS virtually destroying any hope of running the older games.
Sony has traditionally used the same universal wireless connectivity allowing the most compatibility. Unlike Microsoft insisting on changing everything each gen to keep selling all new peripherals making headaches for the 3rd party add on makers.
There are so many PS4 games that need Pro upgrades still. Some get them but they are not even proper. The 1st party games with proper Pro support are simply mind blowing even from a PC gamers perspective. The current Sony catalog isn't as impressive to Pro owners with 4K TV's as it is for casual PS4 1080p gamers not interested in elevating their experience or have yet to invested in modern hardware. For many still fairly current and popular games, the dev's have gone on record as saying will never have Pro enhancements.
This year will be the defining year for console gaming as it will prove once and for all the level of demand for performance vs casual gameplay. Xbox gamers have spent the last few years insisting that graphics don't matter. Their desperate attempt to justify why they can't have what everyone raves about. Now they claim the experience does in fact matter. So will they buy it? Flippity flop... If Scorpio hype rings true, many of the existing catalog titles could potentially see improvement simply by running on the Scorpio without much effort on the developers part. Unlike the Pro which requires a patch. If I pop in an old Xbox One game that ran natively at 900p, (Sunset Overdrive comes to mind and I stopped playing that because it's not good on a 4K TV), or had dynamic scaling it's suppose to just run at near 4K without a bunch of fancy checkerboard rendering or effort... so Microsoft claims. If true, that's a major leap forward for the console already. PS4 Pro requires work from the devs and with the exception of Bethesda rocking out a solid Pro patch for Fallout 4, which is fairly old by games deserving major updates standards, have proven to be mostly greedy and lazy by abandoning their work once retail sales slow. ->EA in particular.
Naturally, Sony has the best and most of the time, award winning games that are true exclusives to the platform. That's only one major reason why they are succeeding this generation beside the reality of Sony now twice in the same generation offering the REAL most powerful consoles ever made. However, these new games are few and far between. The release time between Uncharted 4 and Horizon Zero Dawn was large. As will be the next game either God of War or Days Gone. Sony excels at quality games and the wait is usually always worth it but people get sick of always having to wait forever, inducing mass frustration. The mass of time between releases absolutely creates the perception of a lack of titles.
Sony will only win E3 if they announce the PS5 locking in a guaranteed 4k/60. They won't though. If they were, there would be leaks by now. Someone, somewhere would have shared some tidbit, not just the theory of an analyst. We would know by now.
I believe Microsoft will dominate for the first time in several years. They are hitting hard with not just a better console but allowing that extra power to improve other games already in your library in ways the PS4 Pro can't. Backwards Compatibility may be a bust but there is something to be said about the ability to improve the experience of existing games on new hardware, not just simply "emulating" the older hardware to them running.
VR isn't going to Win E3 for Sony, it's bad right now, a few new game announcements won't win E3, new & powerful, jaw dropping hardware, new tech will win E3 but sadly, we all know nothing like that can stay a secret anymore and there hasn't been any rumors besides wishful thinking from fan sites. We've all known about the NEO for a long long time prior to the official Pro announcement. Luckily, for that level of leakage Microsoft was able to get working on the Scorpio.
@7tizz: Not everyone has the attention span or recollection abilities of the typical xbox fanboy. The majority DO remember things and that's why the bickering continues on.
@joshrmeyer: If you were to somehow get your account hacked or get banned for some dumb reason you can kiss all your precious digital content goodbye. If it could be used for bartering or license transfer to lower the cost of other content maybe it would have value. I have no respect for lazy people that teach the industry new and destructive ways to further take advantage of consumers.
