@SickHammer do you even have an idea of what you are talking about? the article is about being competitive online, pick Blazblue or KOF XIII go online and let's see how far "everybody knows that down, forward, punch does something" takes you. The figthing online community is filled with hungry wolfs that will decimate any new player in a second, the article is about preparing new players on how to survive out there, sure, practice is everytime at the end of the day, but if you don't know the basics of the metagame in a aprticular game, practice won't take you that far unless you are a dedicate fan, chances are that newcomers will give up after 10 straight loses without even knowing why the hell did they lost if you already know the basic moves, and it will prevent the community to grow at all.

@carolynmichelle Yep, totally agree with you and i feel that some sort of ghosts a la Mario Kart could work great here with the AI of some progamers and make it available for gamers who are interested into learning and improving or have in game video tutorials with different sort of matches from the best players in the world or something like that. So yeah, it's up to developers to give the next step.

@carolynmichelle The thing is, figthing games have become much more complex and nowadays to try to learn and improve without any kind of help is frustrating, specially because with online play is not as easy to comunicate with other guys and share your experience, and even back in the Street Fighter 2 days, only dedicate people would be able to learn, experiment and share.

Maxwell you are the GameSpot staff member we all been waiting for, you DO know your figthing games and understand how hard can it be for a newcomer to at least enjoy the online aspect of the game. I remember when i began with Blazblue, i learned some basic combos and went inmediately online because that's the only way to learn...i got my ass kicked so many times and so hard, my win ratio was like 15% (now is like 50%) but being a figthing fan i didn't gave up and slowly beggan to improve however i can see people giving up due to the unforgiven nature of the figthing comunity...i mean it's horrible when you have to fight a guy who doesn't have a clue about what he is doing even if he knows the inputs...so yeah, i'm totally agree with you, developers must find better ways of preparing players for matches against human opponents...maybe if there was a way to capture some IA from some professional players, that would be a nice way to start.

"Disclaimer: GameSpot has a partnership with OnLive"...Translation, "we HAD to write this article", Hahahahahahahaha. This kind of remind me of Al Gore in South Park.
