I had been excited about getting this console as both an update to the current PS4 hardware, and as a solution to a 4K Bluray player for my 4K TV. Having a respectable PC setup, and an Xbox One- I had been waiting for a good time to replace the PS3 with a PS4.
Then Sony decided to not include the 4K Bluray player.
Immediately, I lost interest in this console. After doing some research, I felt confident that having to succumb to getting simply a standard PS4 (albeit, an improved CUH-1200 or 2000 model) would be the best solution. So, immediately I gravitated to the PS4 Slim over the Pro. Then, Sony screws me again, as I find out the Slim doesn't provide a means to me to directly connect it to my receiver via an Optical Out port (I would have had to bypass the PS4 as an output device, and make the HDMI connected TV my output device (as the TV has optical out to the receiver). Well, sorry PS4 Slim- that is a configuration I have to use with the likes of my Gamecube, my Wii, and my Retron 5- I shouldn't have to do that with a console made in 2016! That config doesn't bypass true DTS or Dolby Surround, relying on your receiver create a "filtered" type of Surround.
After all of this meandering with prospect of "updated" hardware- I decided that the best version of the console for me, was going to be the original system (again, the improved CUH-1200 version). I found my PS4 answer in the form of the light blue, Uncharted 4 Limited Edition version- the one with Drake screened on the top- it comes with my reason for making the addition of a PS4 to my lower rack- a copy of the masterpiece, Uncharted 4.
All I can say after having this thing for a few weeks is, man, I love this thing- and I feel I made the right purchase. As someone who plays games at high rezos and settings on PC- the graphical fidelity of this console has been outstanding. With a game like Uncharted 4, I feel at absolutely no loss to the existence of a PS4 Pro. Especially, now that articles like this one are beginning to should just how unsupported current games, and some future ones are going to be (do we see a trend here?). I don't want to have to rely on the motivation of a lazy developer to create additional script for a title (or not) to determine whether or not my Pro is going to be utilized of all its resources or just give a game a minor bump- for what Uncharted 4 proves to me, seems like Diminishing Returns, anyway. I have absolutely no qualms having to be relegated to the "lowly" Uncharted 4 visuals. Puh-leeze!
I'd recommend people to use their PS4 Pro money and buy a 4K HDR TV instead, and save the rest for a standalone Bluray player, or an XB1S or Scorpio.
I maintain neutrality, but it looks like Sony is making some HUGE mistakes that are going to cost them. MS is now is a real position to catch up and possibly take over with Scorpio...hell, maybe the S. Surely, they can't have that much hubris with this shyte release...unless they are in actuality planning a PS5 launch sooner rather than later. Wouldn't be surprised if its actually PS5 that will wind up competing against Scorpio..it should be no shock to anyone in the know that PS5 is currently in development.
@Terminator95: You goddamned idiot. Xbox players are peasants? When a guy like me, who owns a PC that would rape your underpowered box, reads someone with a PS4 calling someone else a peasant- it makes me LMAO. Though both underpowered boxes are comparable, BOTH are still worth getting because they each provide unique experiences. However, you shouldn't gloat your misplaced and undeserved "superiority, " because from a firmware/functionality/and support standpoint- XB1 is actually ahead. That would make XB1 "superior." Plus its the only console currently in a family where a model supports 4K-BRDVD playback, and at an affordable price point. You gdamned loon.
How very disappointing. I was looking forward to this device as my opportunity to finally buy a PS4. Held on to my XB1 and didn't upgrade to an S because I figured the "Neo" would have a 4K BR_DVD Drive. Now they can piss off, as I will be getting the better deal of the PS family...an entry level PS4. I suppose the 4K tv will wind up being joined with a stand alone 4K player. I doubt the omission has to do with increased MSRP, and more to do with Sony being too "broke" to take a risk with a feature they would have to eat to lower retail cost, and hope to recoup.
@Slyster1181: Your opinion is your own. You think of me one way..I think of myself as a college degreed IT professional of 7 years, and a hobbyist since the launch of the very first Tandy Coco home computers...that's since the beginning pal. I have higher standards than this card (and budget PC gamers)- its why I upgraded to a 980ti shortly after posting in this thread. If you don't agree with what I suggest, that's great. Its a free country. But, my intention is to help a few people make a smart purchase...not "fool" people lol. Some people may not want to be limited to medium high settings for a few years like you suggest.
