Why do you think people are clocking the fan so high?? do you think it's because they like the loud noise the fan makes when they turn it up??. Obviously to stop it from artifacting or frying, otherwise why would anyone clock the fan speed over the default??digitalman42

You answered your own questions:

the default fan speeds are lower than they're supposed to be. digitalman42

Do you have a link backing up what you said about the card artifacting and frying ?

I had a discussion with my friend and he said that the CPU I have wont work because of the motherboard I choose FSB is higher then the one for my CPU. Also he said that since the standard memory for ram is DDR2 1066 that a DDR2 800 ram stick wont work. Is any of that true, do I have to change my motherboard?d_player

Your mobo's fsb will scale to your cpu's fsb. And you can use dd2 800 on that mobo no problem.

No, the 9800GX2 is faster than the 4870 in most games, it even beats the GTX280 in many benchmarks. But there's the issue of microstuttering.

Beats on highs but loses on min, which is more important.

Oh i didn't know that, interesting. That probably has to do with the microstuttering on the 9800gx2.

Edit: Did you mean it loses on min vs 4870 or vs GTX 280 ?

9800gtx+ is 200$, 4850 is 175$ - 20$ = 155$. I got my hd4850 for 150$ CDN no MIR.

50% fan speed is enough when you game, and it's not that loud. And it's not as if the 9800gtx+ is silent when you play a game.

And i've seen no report of artifacting with the 4850.
