@Tiwill44: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_game_exclusives_(seventh_generation) Take out the Japanese garbage on the PS3 list & you'll see the exclusives blow for blow :) I primarily used a PS3 throughout last gen (to compliment my PC) & it was in no way the better machine for exclusives in my opinion.

Market share is more in terms of software sales btw. Since the console manufacturers make little to no money on hardware sales, the software sales are the real money maker--the razors to the blade if you like. The Xbox 360 had the highest number of game sales throughout the last decade without a doubt, which means that people by in large preferred to play games on their 360, even if they had a Wii collecting dust somewhere.

@Thanatos2k: The real money is in software sales (since manufacturers don't make much, if anything on console sales) & the market share picture that it shows.

@bdrtfm: Absolutely bang on! It's so irritating to hear the regurgitated comments of high profile YouTuber's being spat out on the comments sections. This approach has been in practise in Gears & many other games for a long time & its worked just fine in the past (not always of course, but then what has). Paying for the superficial content IS entirely optional unless you're a sucker for a fancy paint job & a meaningless price tag...Just exercise some control & don't buy the stuff if it offends you. It's like listening to obese people complain about McDonald's making them fat, just stop eating the bloody food!

It's also worth pointing out that 10 maps as standard with rotating, free DLC maps on public servers is pretty alright. This is new for Gears & it beats forking out £5+ for each pack in one go without first trying the maps included. Time will tell how good or bad the approach is, but enough of the cynicism so early on.

@n00bsla3r66: Well it is optional lol. A weapon skin is hardly game-changing. Let the obsessive give them more money if that's what they want to do. Why should a developer/publisher not cash in with this sort of thing if there's a market for it? It's a reaction to what a large number of people want, and it's not interfering with the experiences of those that don't. If people stopped buying into microtransactions, then the content surrounding them would disappear into bundles with DLC packs like it was presented in the past. Short answer, it's not a perfect system, but it's hardly as bad as what Jim Sterling preaches on a weekly basis :)

That aside, we're going to be getting free rotating DLC maps on the public servers now. That's miles better than how it used to be with Gears & the constant paid DLC packs. Enough complaining! :P

@MrFreehuggs: 100% agree. To be honest though i've always been ok with buying actual DLC if it's something desirable. The idea of putting more money into a game that's making an effort with content shouldn't necessarily be looked down on in my opinion. We all get hung up on microtransactions, and rightly so, they're mostly poison, but paid DLC done right is something good i feel.

@Marky360: I'm surprised they didn't just include it with the X1 ver of Doom 4. The BFG Edition is great btw, they did a nice job of polishing it up & tweaking a few essentials like the annoying flashlight changing.
