@emptycow

Lol.

I'm not here to discuss whether or not the Wii U will have 4k resolution, 16 cores and the most powerful GPU on the market. I'm not here to debate whether or not the next sony/microsoft outings will best the Wii U in terms of raw power.

It is a next gen system. As in, next generation. As in, not this generation. Did it launch in the same window as Wii/PS3/360 and compete directly with that market? No? Than it's not in this generation. It will compete with 360/ps3 early on in it's life, and at the tail end of those consoles' lives. But once 720/PS4 come out, the Wii U will be competing with those consoles and it will all be wrapped up in a cozy blanket called the next gen.

"microsoft and sony on the other hand must top there old systems" . . . please, you don't mean to infer that the Wii U doesn't top the Wii, do you? The Wii U is an obvious leap forward from the Wii in terms of perspective, online functionality, and in terms of the way you can play games.

Nintendo did what the other new consoles are going to do - top the old systems.

It is clear by you calling the Wii U "junk" that you are not in favor of the system - by no means would I try to convince you otherwise.

However, do please be intelligent and informed in your responses, and don't try to bring down others' excitement of potential Nintendo affordability, accessibility, and launch of a new system which, by Nintendo standards is leaps and bounds forward.

I for one won't be buying the Wii U at launch, but I will most likely pick one up within a year after it's release. Therefore, it's launch prices are still of great importance to me.

I'll be picking one up when Nintendo has stronger 1st party titles on it, and although there's a pretty strong 3rd party lineup right now, the Nintendo favorites are severely lacking.

And that my friends, is the reason people play Nintendo. They have great games. Plain and simple. And I am excited at the prospect of owning a new Nintendo system, with great online infrastructure, full HD and high end graphics to view Nintendo favorites in glorious ways never before seen, all for a price that won't break the bank.

Awesome. Absolutely incredible.

For Wii U to start at $250, it will hit the ground running!

I wonder what the higher priced consoles will be.

To me, the MOST basic console will have to come with the obvious basic cables, the system, and one controller.

I'm guessing the $300 comes with all that, plus wiimote plus & nunchuk, perhaps a game such as Nintendoland.

Perhaps the $350 comes with two Wii U game pads? Who knows how much those are going to cost on the side...

As I said, Nintendo is going to hit the ground running IF in fact these rumors are true. launching at $250 for a next gen system will ensure fast adaptation into the market at launch, slow sales for competing consoles now (360/ps3) putting the heat on Microsoft/Sony to get their new consoles out sooner than they want perhaps, and it will keep it very competitive when those next consoles are released.

Taking these rumors with a grain of salt. Wouldn't be totally shocked if the lowest end Wii U cost $300-$350, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for $250 base.

@JimmeyBurrows the problem is that the Wii is a brand now.

The 90 million+ Wii owners will be more attracted to a direct sequel bearing the Wii name still. They may or may not realize that Nintendo is the brand. Keep in mind, this is due to the games, wii fit, wii sports, etc.

That's why they need to keep the Wii name.

To get rid of it might have meant to risk losing some of those Wii customers.

It's smart business on Nintendo's end, but i agree with you.

@TheFreeman98 No, I believe it will be better than that. Similarly to the way Wii has better graphical capabilities than the gamecube/xbox/ps2, but obviously not on par with this gen, the Wii U will have graphics better than 360/ps3 but it won't be on par with the next batch of consoles.

I wouldn't be too surprised if it could run modern high-end PC settings though.

BTW though, look up Assassin's Creed 3 boston demo, played on ps3. then bring up the same demo from the Wii U version.

Wii U has better lighting, a crisper image, more details in textures, a much better draw distance, and higher visual quality in said draw distance.

We will see that the Wii U will, within a year or two of games, make 360/ps3 look out dated, very much the way the highest end gaming PC rigs make them look now.

honestly....this looks loads better than the racing wheel that Nintendo put out when Mario Kart came around....it was just a circular case around the wiimote.

but this is a full-out add-on, and although it isn't particularly attractive it certainly looks functional.

I've always wanted a force-feedback wheel for my 360 but never invested the money as they are quite expensive.

for PS3 owners, this seems to be a good option that, although won't be quite as good as a force-feedback wheel, may still be more fun & 'realistic' to the user than just buttons & triggers on a controller.

The issue with the wiimote wheel is the lack of accuracy and to be completely honest, it's too light weight, & the light weight is quite frankly worsened by the fact that it's not tethered to a base, it's just floating in air.

This looks to be a little more heavy duty than the wiiwheel and for potential consumers i hope it is, but at the very least it will be twice as accurate as the wii wheel was given that move has 1:1 tracking.

i agree with every single mention on here except for one, super mario galaxy 3.

I don't want another galaxy...i want a return to the colorful & fun land of mario, not in space, but that doesn't stop Nintendo from using gravity based levels on occasion. But i sometimes do miss more classic platforming a la SM64/Sunshine. Also, and most importantly, I beckon for a return of an interactive and expansive hub world, a la 64/sunshine, as opposed to the lackluster spaceship in Galaxy 1 and the rather boring excuse & useless hub that was the mario head spaceship in galaxy 2. Exploring delfino isle and even moreso Peach's castle in 64 was so much fun, something the galaxy games missed out on.

Anyway, I also disagree that a galaxy 3 would really show off the Wii U power. Mario has always had a certain visual style to it, even though it changed from 64/sunshine to galaxy, it was still more or less the same. I think Nintendo would have to really completely rework the system from the ground up & make an all new game, not Galaxy 3, to really show off the new visual prowess albeit in good ol' fashion Mario style.

As far as Metroid: Chozo is concerned, I agree with the idea, but I'm begging for another Metroid game a la the Prime Trilogy! Now THAT would take full advantage of the horsepower of the Wii U.

Finally, I would simply add F-Zero to this list. Nintendo needs a racing title in it's launch, and it wants to cater to the hardcore gamers? As much as I love Mario Kart as anyone else, it simply wouldn't do. So the time is ripe for a 'hardcore' racing game, F-Zero fits the bill! Blisteringly fast, and potentially glorious in HD, it wouldn't take much for that franchise to succeed on Wii U.

man, if the Wii U is $250 it is going to fly off the shelves. i'd DEFINITELY buy one at launch if it was that cheap. But i suspect it will launch at $299.99. Nintendo has never released a console above this price, and seeing as it is more of a 'between generations' console as far as hardware only is concerned, there is no need for it to be more than $300.

Also worth considering though is what is in the package. I suspect Nintendo may offer two packages...one that may be cheaper (250-300) with only the console, basic cables, and one gamepad, and one thats more expensive (300-350+) including a wiiremote plus, a wii u pro controller, hdmi cable, and perhaps a game such as Nintendo Land.

wow...if this is real time...this looks as good as CGI trailers/cutscenes on current consoles!!!!!! i really hope the next xbox/ps make good use of unreal 4, just as much if not more than 3. here's hoping elder scrolls VI looks this good! wow im still in awe...and so glad they did this on a single, albeit expensive, graphics card. that means in another year or two when the next consoles come out, they should be able to pack enough heat to run this engine and look this good!

i wonder if he is excited for Wii U then. being not much more powerful if at all compared to 360/ps3, but bringing in both motion control, standard buttons, and a second, non-fixed position screen.
