For us technology minded people it seems like an easy proposition. Upgrade our HDD, connect our computers to our TVs, and download movies over the internet. Run out of space, simply get another large HDD. Tranfser the movies over and start again. But you're going to have to convince older people in the 30+ range who aren't as technologically savy as we are to adopt that way of thinking. The idea of convincing people they need HDTV's and HD movies is hard enough, and then you want to go a major step forward and convince them that in order to watch these types of movies they will have to connect their computers to their TV's and download the movies from the internet will be a tall order.

Downloading HD movies with HD sound (such as available on HD-DVD and Bluray) sounds like a great idea but for the masses it's simply not. These movies with their audio can take anywhere from 20GB to a massive 60GB (two disc Pirates feature). The time of downloading these films and the storage requirements will be huge. A modest 30 movie collection will take nearly 600GB of storage. That's quite a bit just for movies. It's a nice niche market, but not feasible for a mass distribution.

Not really though. You can get 7.1 surround over optical cable, or digital coax.

HDMI has uncompressed Audio and Video and faster transfer rates.

A fiberoptic cable can carry uncompressed audio as well.

DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD require HDMI. They cannot be transmitted via optical or coax.

Sounds like more Sony buzz words to me. I can get Dolby Digital 7.1 at 192 KHz at 24 bit over optical. And trust me, theres no way you will hear audio any better than that.

You don't know much about Home Theater do you if you haven't heard of either DTS-HD or Dolby TrueHD? For starters, neither have anything to do with Sony. And yes, the sound is noticeably better. Both are also only available on Bluray and HD-DVD.

Listening to audio at 192KHz/24-bit is absolutely perfect fidelity. People can hardly tell the difference between CD(which is 44.1/16-bit) and SACD which is 192KHz/24-bit. There is a small difference though, but it would only be noticeable on the best of speakers. Now if you can get me the bit-rate/bandwidth on this "TrueHD", that would be great, but it won't matter. I can guarantee the most hardcore audiophile will tell you that anything above 192KHz/24-bit is useless. This whole TrueHD thing falls under the same category as Sony saying 1080p is trueHD, and is brand new, when computer monitors have been pushing that resolution for years.

Actually it doesn't. TrueHD is the copyrighted advanced audio codec from Dolby Digital Labs. It also requires HDMI because the Optical Toslink cannot transmit Dolby TrueHD because of bandwidth limitations. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolby_TrueHD

I guess it could be considered store credit since I used my Best Buy credit card for the purchase.   My valid reason is that I'm not happy with the purchase and fully intend to make another $480 purchase in a few weeks when the Elite is released.  I've also bought $4,500 worth of appliances (just bought a new house) from them in the past two months as well.

I bought a new 360 about two weeks ago and now I find out the Elite is coming out and would rather have it. Will they take it back if I have the receipt?  It says anything can be returned inside 30 days but I also know how shady Best Buy can be with things.

Sometimes I like to pretend that Revolutions and Reloaded are fake and are a figment of my imagination. I do the same thing with Rocky V.
