Will the sacrifices that EA had to make to get the 360 at 60fps also apply to the PS3? I'm not sure if anyone knows at this point, but I do know that EA had to get rid of helmet reflections and made the player models a little more fuzzy in order to get the 60fps. (FWIW I'd rather have the 60fps than either).

[QUOTE="ramey70"]So this week Tango is an acclaimed game developer. This guy is a jack of all trades....tango90101

Given what we know and have seen from the two platforms, what he said is pretty logical.

Not neccessarily, some games like NCAA Hoops 2k7 are better on the PS3, while many others are better on the 360. It wouldn't kill any of us wait a couple of years before we make these kinds of definitive statements. But this is the instant gratification now results generation so that kind of patience is probably not expected on this forum.

Sorry, but the overwhelming majority of cross-platform titles look better on the 360 at the moment. One game does not overrule a majority.

True, but I think your sample pool would need to grow a little more before you can deduct such absolutes. If it's still this way next summer then I think Sony would need to so some serious explaining (in addition to the already large amount of explaining they need to do for other legitimate failures on their part).

the proof is already overwhelming...

how many titles EXACTLY do you want before you consider it an "absolute"..?

just a number... thanks...:)

It has more to do with time than number of titles. As I've already said in this thread, I would wait until at least next summer. If by then nothing has changed we will know for sure that there won't be any noticeable advancement in games developed on the PS3. What's your rush anyway? I also think GTAIV will be a big test. Both are getting equal dev treatment and effort put in the game. If the 360 version is much much better than the PS3 I think the writing will be on the wall.

Nick Wingfield ofThe Wall Street Journalsays:

While versions of the game for the major consoles will be similar, EA recently said the Xbox 360 version of the game will run at twice the "frame rate" of the PlayStation 3 version -- a measure that could translate into smoother on-screen motion in the eyes of some gamers.

The excuses of "understanding the Cell" have to stop. This is the second year that EA has been programming on PS3. I guess the PS3 isn't as powerful as the 360.

Berserker_2

Actually this is the second year NCAA Football has been on the 360. It's the first for the PS3. FWIW I'm getting the 360 version.

EA has made many PS3 games. There's absolutely no excuse for the PS3 version to be at half the frame rate unless the hardware is weak.

Remember that the Xbox 1 always demonstrated it's muscle and always had better frame rates than PS2.

The Xbox was a significantly better machine than the PS2. The PS3 and 360 are much closer to each other hardwarewise (despite what Sony will tell you) than those two ever were. Unless any of us are actual programmers it's hard to really speak with any authority on this issue. Though I'm quite sure that won't disuade some of us.

I think you are correct, but my point was that the Xbox 1 demonstrated it's power on day 1. It didn't take 2 years to see a difference. Sony says that the PS3 is 2x more powerful, yet the 360 has the same games which run smoother and support simultaneous AA and HDR.

This is why I say the excuses have to stop. PS3 owners are expecting some game to come out and blow the 360 out of the water, but it's not gonna happen.

If Sony thinks the PS3 is 2x powerful than the 360 they are dreaming. It simply isn't, even the best PC out right now isn't 2x more powerful than the 360. And I also agree that no PS3 game will ever blow the 360 out of the water. However, that doesn't mean there isn't any credence to the hard development issues with the PS3 and its architecture. I think the reality of the situation regarding Madden/NCAA is that there really isn't any motivation or reward right now for EA to work hard to give the PS3 60fps. Why invest so much money and time into a small user base?

Didnt it take about 7 years for developers to be able to utilize every hardware feature of the PS2? And you'd expect developers to be able to use the Cell, something much more complex than the PS2 to optimize for, in about a year?

The PS3 is more powerful than the 360. Plain and simple.

Its a hell of a lot easier for developers to utilize the power in the 360. Will the PS3 eventually outclass the 360 once developers know how to better use it? Way to early to tell. It may be possible that the 360 continues its lead for a long time.

Berserker_2

It's not "plain and simple". If it was, we would see an example of a game demonstrating that power. Like I said, the excuses of difficult programming need to stop. The PS3 is not as powerful. This is proven time and time again.

So why wasn't it proven on NCAA Hoops 2k7?

tango90101

on paper..

unfortunately the poor efficiency of the ps3's architecture prevents the unit from ever seeing the numbers sony likes to hype in best case situations...

bah..one only has to look at the games to see the ps3 is not as powerful as the 360 in realworld gaming applications...

the 360 was designed as a gaming machine as its paramount consideration... the ps3 was not...

the fact the excuses of "hidden power" are already starting to appear with the ps3, i don't see it keep pace with the 360's more flexible and efficient architecture...

they've only scratched the surface of what the 360 is capable of...:)

So this week Tango is an acclaimed game developer. This guy is a jack of all trades....
