I don't even know if Microsoft has a backup plan to this. They are stuck with $499.00 price point, a bad PR due to a software program in X1 that checks Internet connectivity for authentication, profile status collection on your game accounts and a DRM system that complicates sharing, trading, using, selling, giving games.
Microsoft has to fire or 'promote' some executives who make the decision to create a DRM tool for their console and being so cocky that their Xbox brand will maintain their customers for making it a media device. Do these executives study history? It happened to Atari in the 80s, to Nintendo in the 90s, to Sony in 2006 and it will happen to them in 2013.
