I have to imagine this is a difficult game to review. First off this isn't a game for everyone. I guess this could be said of any game but this particular genre will be a turn off for gamers that put a high value on gameplay.

Then there is the "issue" of the branching story and how it unfolds. Impressions could change based on the story the gamer experiences. Imagine trying to review a movie where scenes play out differently every time someone watches. Certain playthroughs and paths could be more enjoyable than others and, perhaps, the story could be better based on the decisions made and resulted outcomes.

The effectiveness of the branching system will play a role too. Is there enough variance in decisions and outcomes? Do you feel the weight of you decisions? Does the cause and effect make sense? I think back to Mass Effect. Initially the choices felt liberating like we really had agency in the world and dictated outcomes in the universe. Turned out our choices didn't play as big of a role as we initially thought and there were only a couple different outcomes to our choices. Some people might be okay with the variance in decision making and outcomes while others might feel that's it's more limited than the game puts off.

My personal opinion, I'm not that into these games. I like the idea and concept behind them more than I enjoy actually playing them, though I think it could be fun playing with another person or group. Would really put a twist on movie night. Although these games aren't my cup of tea I do like that Quantic Dreams and Tell Tale continue to create these types of games. Variety is always great, especially in a gaming world where it seems not enough companies take chances with new and different ideas. I'd love to see the level of choice in these games to makes it way into other story driven games, especially RPGs. I would also love to see these games from a first person VR perspective. If done right they would be the most immersive and interactive experiences we've ever seen in gaming.

@CeltaVigo: is it still coming out in November? Things have been so quiet about the film I completely forgot about it.

Maybe I'm just not familiar enough with the Shazam character but this guy doesn't look the part to me. He looks more like a Flash/Barry Allen type than Shazam.

@kylexile: I stopped preordering games from Amazon after I received Uncharted 4 a couple days late. I just didn't trust them after that. Might be forced to give them a try again now that the gamer club is ending. I've really never had any other issues when it comes to Amazon. Everything else gets delivered on time if not a day earlier than expected.

@good_coop89: I'm certainly in no rush, expecially after playing God of War. We are still getting great games that look and play extremely well. Better graphics and frame rates would be nice but I don't think better hardware is entirely necessary right now. It's not like at the end of the PS3/Xbox360 era when the peak was long reached and the gap between PC and console was monumental. I think the PS4/Pro still have a couple good years left.

@Zignoff: considering the games already in development I can't imagine it's much less than the original games on ps3 (assuming you mean exclusives when you say original games).

@Defender1978: I like the idea of getting a Switch. It'd be nice to have a console I could use even when the tv is being used or if I'm on the go but there just isn't enough games that interest me.

@Thretosix: wait, you bought a PS4 for the FFVII remake without having any indication of when it would release? And how exactly were you duped into purchasing the digital copy again? Seems like you made impulse decisions that you ended up regretting.

@craigtl: Eurogamer isn't too bad. Kotaku is alright too. I prefer both to Gamespot and ign. The people there just seem a little more mature and civil.

@kstaggs3: seriously. Doesn't seem that long ago but seeing "launched in November 2013" really puts it in perspective. It's been a weird generation. Slow start, not a ton of truly great

generation defining gamess (especially compared to the last couple generations) but a lot of really good ones.
