@VGjunkie87 I certainly agree with you, but I also think that it makes no sense releasing a PC game without a "choose your resolution" option. Heck, there are monitors around with different scales (4:3; 16:10 and 16:9), if we can't control the resolution, that means we'll get distorted graphics if we're not using a monitor with the game's standard scale . One simple option like that would enhance the experience for the majority while, at the same time, not consuming much development resources.
@SpookyJack "it isn't so far-fetched to think that survival horror games have evolved from point & click games". Agreed! We should remember that even if Resident Evil was the first game to call itself a "survival horror", it had MUCH in common with 1992's Alone in the Dark.
@Dugular @JangoF-76 And, I would like to add that even if the games you mention "(eg. Mass Effect, Red Dead Redemption, Assassin's Creed, Darksiders, etc.)" have good stories, they're all relatively new games. 20 or 15 years ago you wouldn't find stories like that on many games, but point'n'click adventures were almost always story based. Still, even today, adventure are on a different level (like Dugular said). Even though I like Mass Effect, I can't say it's story compare to The Longest Journey and it's sequel, Dreamfall, for example (and I can't help noticing how much of Mass Effect 1 scenario is derivative of Planescape: Torment :P)..
This news makes me sad. I've played, literally, more than a couple dozen MMOs and, for me, City of Heroes was always the best. Was a paid subscriber for two and a half years, 500% more time than what I spent in any other MMO. I'll always have fond memories of CoH, the friends I made there, my supergroup, exploring Paragon City, super-jumping around, defeating giant monsters, joining the seasonal events and fighting crime. Heck, you could spend hours and hours in the character creator alone! I've bee playing some recent MMOs and still see them doing some things that CoH did better years before.
I've not played it in years, but I'm sure as hell will download it again and take a final tour around Paragon City. For the Altimates! CoH is part of my history and one of the best games I played.
@ecurl143 Actually? Sometimes an unfinished plot is better than a mediocre ending. I'm not saying that is the case with ME3 (I'll only start playing the third game when they're done releasing DLCs for it and we have a complete version of the game), but, according to what I've been reading, I'm thinking it may be.
I played some disappointing sequels in the past, and I'm pretty sure that, for games, "it's better to burn out than to fade away", even if that means leaving an unfinished plot. Take a look at Dreamfall: it never had it's sequel, never had a third part, and still is one of the most memorable games I've played. If you want to compare to other narrative medium: take a look at "The Matrix", I'm sure as hell think it would be better if we never had the two sequels.
@N-REAL I won't dispute the DLC's quality here, but worth it? About three years ago I bought the entire Mass Effect 1 for that price! And, one year later, got ME2 also for U$9.99. Man, in this year alone I bought Alan Wake American Nightmare for U$3.74; LA Noire Complete for U$5.74; The Witcher 2 for U$15.99 (and the first one for U$2.75) and Orcs Must Die! 2 for U$11.25, so I wouldn't say Leviathan's worth ten bucks, actually, U$5.00 would be a pretty fair price for it, if you ask me. These EA's DLCs are way overpriced.
@decoy1978 I don't know about that. I'd say never put jump challenges on a game where the jump commands are inconsistent. I'm finding very positive the exploration experience in the datacron-path discovering, but I'm also finding the inconsistent jumping annoying as hell.
