READ THIS SQUARE-eNIX: Regarding story: MAKE IT TANGIBLE. Do not make the dialogue, characters and world vague or detached from reality; no annoying quirks from characters. Bring back things like interruptions during a wedding, funeral sessions, funny moments throughout to keep the story engaging. Keep the characters and story progression similar to either FF6,7, or 9. You would do well to just have text too as opposed to voice acting which would alienate the western world.

Regarding Gameplay: Keep it simple. Full party control and no automated gameplay. Make it deep, but understandable and consistent. Bring back the ability to steal, turn enemies into items, cards, manipulate enemies, capture them etc. Airships. FOR CHRIST SAKE Back the open world gameplay like in FF6-9 with airships at some point.

For simplicity's sake you can have random battles, but there should be an item that you can equip and unequip to turn them on and off. Or just space them out enough. REDUCE THE NEED TO GRIND <--- very important like in FF7, FF8 and FF9: battles were spaced out very well and you got plenty of experience points in a decent amount of time.

Finally, focus on making FF games meaningful. Not huge and lifeless with nothing to do. By that I also mean bring back areas like in the PS1 FF games with pre-rendered backgrounds. There were so many important areas in those games; they weren't nearly as big as the environments in FF12 and FF13, but they were absolutely incredible because they were defined and meaningful. FOCUS ON QUALITY, NOT QUANTITY.

Last advice: If you have to reduce graphical proficiency to make all of this happen, then so bet it. Graphics are not going to improve much more now, so impressing gamers with this strategy is not going to work anymore; plus you'll save a ton of money. Focus on the art style instead. Same with getting rid of voice acting and using text.

@Crossel777 Actually they have been getting away from western influence lately. FF7-10 actually had more western influence than 13 from a story perspective: more humor, more balanced character progression, less non-sequitors (or none at all), and most importantly they weren't so vague through the story. There were specific events that were tangible and not so detached or out of balance when it came to dramatic dispositions.

I think the problem regarding the HD version is that Tidus looks like he has less of an expression. The lighting, his face and skin look emotionless and with less of an impression in the HD version.

@Gray360UK It's considered a profit failure (at least right now). It doesn't matter how impressive your sales are unless you actually make enough to at least get a return on it. We don't know right now how much SE put into the game.

@CecilChups @Infinity_Gauntl SE didn't make the games, but they sure as hell pushed them with their own money.
