Lets be honest with ourselves when reading into what MS has to say about this. They can talk about their 2017 lineup being a focus and all this and that, but we know it isn't, software is taking a backseat so they can focus on Scorpio and it's advertisement leading up to release. They're putting a lot into Scorpio and the buzz surrounding it's hardware, no time for software.
@Mirimon78: I don't put too much stock in console launches anymore as a tell tale sign of how a system will perform, in my opinion 9 out of 10 console launches are usually lackluster with crappy to mediocre softare, but all the Xbox really needed was Halo at the time lol. I mean, look how far Halo has taken them. Halo actually kept people busy until software started coming at a faster pace.
MechAssault, Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2, Project Gotham Racing, Halo 2, Crimson Skies, and a good handful of others made the Xbox brand something to consider, and given it was their first attempt at a console, I'd say they did a damn good job. It was never in the cards for them to reach worldwide appeal, but as far as the US is concerned they nailed it, and the 360 further proved that with it's North America sales.
I prefer Sony, but I don't deny Microsofts impact stateside and how they've reached an audience here.
@Mirimon78: Halo, Project Gotham Racing, and shortly after than Crimson Skies and several others made the OG Xbox more than a worthwhile pick up.
This is different though, if he really wanted to play ONE game he could just as easily pick up a cheap XB1S instead of plunking down $500-$600 for one game.
@Dom_Hawk_basic: Like I said, it depends on the game, but keep in mind, things like AA can be kept to a minimum running games in native 4K, so to max out AA is just hogging up VRAM for very little improvement. So based on that I tend to keep AA to FXAA or MSAAx2 when running games in native 4K. That's not always the case though, some I run with AA maxed out, especially if it's an older game, but some like Titanfall 2 I can make an exception on if they're well made games.
Heres my experience with the games I've played so far
Forza Horizon 3 - everything maxed minus AA being set to FXAA - locked 60fps
Ultimate Gears of War - completely maxed - locked 60fps
Skyrim - everything maxed out - dozen graphics modes turned on - locked 60fps
Mad Max - everything maxed out - locked 60fps
Star Wars Battlefront - everything maxed out minus frame scaling being set to 100% (goes up to 200%) - locked 60fps
Titanfall 2 - everything maxed out - locked 60fps
Alien Isolation - everything maxed out - locked 60fps
Only games I've had to bump settings down for (so far). That's going from ULTRA to HIGH or VERY HIGH I might add
Gears 4 - don't understand this one
Metro Last Light Redux - super demanding game in 4K
@jjs2016x4x1: Yea, and no. My current PC craps all over the Scorpio, and it's a single GTX 1080. Even still, by the time Scorpio releases I'll likely have a 1080ti in my rig and the gap will have once again widened even further.
The Scorpio will be a 4K/30fps machine make no mistake about it, if they want to achieve a high level of graphical fidelity and still maintain performance they'll have to settle for 30fps in quite a few games, with the 60fps being reserved for their exclusive titles (Forza, Halo) and other titles that typically run at 60fps (Call of Duty, Battlefield/Battlfefront). I say this because MS even stated the Scorpio is more in line with a GTX 1070, and the 1070 is nowhere near a 4K/60fps card at HIGH to ULTRA settings, and please don't say "console optimization" like it's this big factor in making things all better, I read an article about a year ago speaking of the misconceptions and spin people apply to "console optimization" like it's this magic sauce that makes everything better. Console optimization isn't all that different than a PC gamer going in and adjusting graphical settings to reach stable framerates, it's a more involved process given it's not as easy as having the settings right in front of you, but it's basically the same thing.
No one that games on PC is threatened by the Scorpio, in fact, some PC gamers are getting Scorpio performance and beyond RIGHT NOW, even with Miscrosoft games. You should see Forza Horizon 3 in 4K at 60fps, sure I had to bump AA down to FXAA, but at 4K the FXAA works quite well, everything else is completely maxed though and it never drops a frame from 60fps.
So go ahead in your attempts at gloating over the Scorpio, which is still about a year away, I'll just sit here and get "better than" Scorpio performance while you wait and brag about something you don't even have yet. If you were smart you'd wait and see what the machine can actually do before claiming it'll be such a beast, console developers always overblow and underdeliver, happens EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. yet you console fanboys eat it up EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Cheers.
It's rare a game gets cancelled and it bother me, it's far worse when they release a game that SHOULD have been cancelled. **cough**Aliens Colonial Marines**cough**.
