This game looks like it will suck for VR without the benefit of touch controllers - which naturally aren't being released with the Rift headset until later this year.
Walmart should put unruly shoppers in stockades. Walmart shoppers aren't really part of humanity, so there wouldn't be any human rights violations associated with it.
Mobile phones and tablets definitely have the potential to match console hardware with how quickly the ARM processor technology is advancing, but they don't use anywhere near their full potential processing power. If the Galaxy S7 was turned on to full power in order to render a game like Skyrim for VR output - it would literally melt your face off and set you on fire! Phones and tablets are designed to be efficiency-driven, not performance-driven, even on the high-end device spectrum.
@kyelo: They certainly have the business portfolio to apply VR (film studios, music studios, game studios, etc.), and the PS4 does have a large install base - but is the PSVR/PS4 combo sufficient enough to convince the mainstream populous that it's the next best thing? I wouldn't say so. The 1st-gen PSVR just doesn't seem up to par with the PC competitors in terms of graphical fidelity, or the controller mechanics for that matter. Both of those are critical to VR for the sense of immersion.
I'm hopeful that Sony is already developing the 2nd-gen PSVR headset for the PS5. If the 2nd-gen model has the head tracking capabilities of the Rift, the body tracking capabilities of Vive, and the high resolution display of StarVR, then Sony would likely be the dominant VR platform.
VR just might be the unforeseen savior of GameStop. With the industry shifting towards digital downloads, GameStop's core business is going to evaporate with the next generation. I don't see physical media in the PS5 or XBONE successor, despite what console owners are demanding. But GameStop could reengineer their business model to be a VR test ground for Sony, Oculus, and Valve so they can entice consumers who haven't bought into the technology yet.
MS execs keep using the term "ecosystem" to explain these kinds of decisions. I'm starting to think that they'll soon be moving ALL of their 1st-party games to the Windows Store in an effort to build the rumored discless Xbox unit we've heard about. It's no secret that they've lost this generation to the PS4, so why not build a dumbed down version of the XBONE that functions as a streaming device? Selling a device for $99 to $149 that can play XBONE titles via streaming from the Windows Store (similar to Nvidia TV) might allow them to recover some lost ground to Sony.
@gottago42: Yep, the PS4 attempting to run a headset (even one as dumbed down as PS VR) is the equivalent of trying to drive a semi-truck with a Ford Focus engine
