@Ahiru-San: Yep, Nintendo execs are the most non-innovative, change-resistant group of individuals to ever blight the gaming industry. At the very least, they should have followed what Amazon did with the Kindle Fire by making a proprietary OS that runs on Android. Then they could pick a tablet/phone manufacturer and release consistent Nintendo-branded hardware units (phones & tablets) every 2 years so 3rd-party developers, and Nintendo themselves, would have plenty of time make high quality games and ports.

"Nintendo has detailed its financial results for the nine-month period spanning April to December 2015". LOL! Nice of them to post an article highlighting this period, when their 4th quarter (October-December) profits plunged 36%. Hopefully the NX will blow us all away so the focus can shift from the Wii U being Nintendo's worst selling console.

Free games are always a good incentive for a subscription model service like Xbox Live Gold, or Playstation Plus, but MS needs to do more to entice people to buy an XBONE. PS4 has been outselling the XBONE by 2 to 1, so MS really needs start selling hardware units as a subscription model as well. I imagine MS would regain some lost ground if they priced a 1TB XBONE model at $199 with a required 12-month Live subscription.

@7tizz: The title of the article should have been "Nintendo shutting down Wii U in March"

If Nintendo could have persuaded Apple to form an exclusive partnership with them back when they launched the iPhone, and every other subsequent iOS device since then, they would undoubtedly be one of the wealthiest software companies and recognizable brands in the world.

Nintendo stock declines because they lack leaders with innovative minds. Iwata was praised because he turned the Wii into a fad rather than a gaming console, and thus sold over 100 million units and millions more software titles. The same for the DS. But try and imagine how many software titles they would have sold to date if they used the iPod/iPhone/iPad as their mobile gaming platform. And the Apple TV as their console platform.

The rift wouldn't be worth it even if it was $349. The most appealing thing about the Rift was the touch controllers which won't be out until halfway through the year. This device only has head tracking, not body tracking like the Vive. At the end of the day your just buying a glorified peripheral that can only be used well for racing sims or flight sims.

VR is about a full body immersive experience. Oculus might have been working towards this until Facebook bought them, but at least Valve and HTC were there to salvage the dream of VR. So it really doesn't matter if you missed the ballpark, Palmer - you sold your soul to the devil, and your product lost all of its appeal along the way.

@ShepardCommandr: I think Sony will attempt to expand the VR ecosystem beyond gaming in the same manner that Oculus is doing. Yeah an HMD that costs twice as much as the PS4 itself, and could only be used for playing the terrible looking games that were demos at the last PSVR event would probably fail, I fully agree with you there. But the PlayStation network will probably offer some VR TV shows and movies that are exclusives from Sony Studios to give the headset a little more value.

$599 isn't surprising at all. Although I won't consider buying one without the touch controllers. Guess I'm going with the Vive.
