Even though I wasn’t a huge fan of Injustice’s gameplay (Not a dig against it, perhaps I’m just used to "street fighter"-esque game mechanics and not the “mortal kombat” controls; although I remember MK9 feeling more responsive.) there is one thing I wish other fighting game developers would try to emulate from Ed Boon and his team.
Crafting an engaging and thoughtful story/narrative.
Even though the controls felt clunky and stiff TO ME, something that normally would make me put a game down after a few rounds, my curiosity in what was going to happen next kept me plugging through each stage.
I WISH other fighting game developers would put the same level of thought and care into their story-lines as Netherrealm studios. Mortal Kombat 9 stands out in my mind as being one of those rare titles in the fighting game community that did it so well.
Now don’t get me wrong, it’s not like these story-lines are going to win an Oscar or anything, but they are so far above the bar set by previous fighting games that everything else just seems like a pathetic afterthought in comparison. And yes, I do understand that a story isn't a requirement for a good fighting game but still its nice to have a reason for the various characters beating the tar out of each other.
That alone is worthy of praise and at least a try for those out there who are on the fence about giving ANY Netherrealm studios game a try.
Smart business move on Nicalis' behalf. With limited selection for the Switch at launch their game will get more attention than it otherwise would normally get.
It also gives incentive for people who were on the fence about it the chance to give it a try.
Despite what some people on here believe I personally think that that is what Microsoft is intending to do with the launch of the Scorpio. The specs alone would suggest it is more than just a slightly upgraded Xboxone.
It's easy to get lost in semantics (what is considered current gen? what is not?) but the way Microsoft are describing their new hardware makes it sound like a real "Next-Gen" piece of equipment rather than say the jump the PS4 made to the PS4pro (what some might consider a current gen upgrade.).
